I have one on my ticket and have been waiting for CZ - it wont be above £500 as CZ has a name for reasonably priced quality, and its from Checkoslovakia..

Compared to the Savage it has to be worth £600.

Shame there are no good quality second hand !

The hmr is for sale and I was considering a 22 hornet. But now..... Are you interested?

In the hornet I mean

I am certainly not in the market for another one, I have been using a semi custom 17AH on a CZ527 action and stock for a couple of years, almost certainly the only one in the UK. I may have it re chambered back to 17HH to make it feed.

In the US its being priced at $700 so that means £900 here I would guess.

What about the 17 mag from Winchester thats been developed.........

It wont do anything that 17HMR wont, 17HH is a far better bet. 3600fps and reloadable, zero at 150 yards and you are only 10mm high at 100 yards.

Remember Winchester WSSMs a few years ago, the bees knees, well anyone who bought a rifle chambered for them may now be regretting it. WMR was never an accurate round, cant see why 17WMR will be any better, might be wrong though. I expect the boys on Saubier will soon advise when they get their hands on them.

I think we need to wait and see about the 17 Win Mag, but I think suggesting it won't do anything a HMR won't is probably a bit off the mark.

WMR was never a target round but it will easily deliver sub 1" with current ammo, and the .17 Win Mag is a completely different cartridge to a WMR so I can't see any comparison at this time! :good:

The 17 Hornet is still new with few in the country, the CZ offering has been talked about for ages, again we shall have to wait and see, but if it turns up at £900 in the UK I rather suspect they won't sell any!

It's sounds like a nice caliber but in reality why would you ever get one over a 22-250/.223? I can't really see much advantage over them apart from the .17 being slightly quieter and cheaper to reload. Wind is going to be more of an issue and you have less 'thump' at longer ranges.

But I'm sure it would be fun to use if you were after a new toy.

:hmm: :hmm: You buy the calibre that suits your need/application, that's why there are so many different calibres. I have 8 different rifles and 7 different calibres on my FAC (and Air rifles and Shotguns) because they do different things!

Just the same, I don't have a .22 Hornet and I'm not queueing up to buy a .17 Hornet either, I'm interested to hear more about the .17 Win Mag but I still don't see me having a requirement for it! :good:

Well new 22 hornet cz go for 550/ 600 so I can't see it being any more than that. Over the last six months I have be considering several centerfires to replace my hmr so I could have one gun for vermin and be able to take a fox if needs be. Was very close to getting a fireball but brass is very hard to get at the mo. looked at the 17 rem to but it would be a bit to much gun for my land in most places. So have narrowed it down to one of the hornets. I think the 22 is the safer option as its stood the test of time but I and leaning towards the SHINY NEW 17. The new Winchester mag thing seems interesting but as I understand you can't reload it so it prob not going to be as accurate?? I am guessing that factory ammo will be cheaper tho. I am Deffo envious of the yanks being able to buy what the want and not what they need

17 Hornet is a bit specialised, ideal for crows etc out to 200 yards, easily modded, mine is fitted with a proofed rimmy mod. Not ideal for fox unless placement is spot on and even then use 25 gr bullets.

I use mine as a carry rifle on my trap round up till the crops come off when a 300 yard fox might be on offer, then I take more gun but most crows etc have been tidied up by then.
