OK, so I just brought myself a second hand Hatsan Escort Camo, Semi Auto for £225. I've only had my licence for a season and surrently own an under and over but wanted this one purley for decoying.

Being new to all this I wonder if somebody could explain what it means when it says that it has a 76mm chamber. Its a 12g, so does it accept 12g cartridges or do 12g cartridges come in different sizes?

Does it have a streight butt pad or a curved one where it attaches to the stock, do you load the cartridges into the via a button on the side or does it have the quick loading gate underneath, The latest ones also have extended chokes.

Think it has a curved buu pad (at work at the minute), bolt release is on the side as oppsed to the loading gate. When you say extended chokes, as far as qantity I have 5 I think, if its by length, Im not sure what the norml length would be!

I ran 250 67 mm 28G Hull Intercomp HV 28G fibre (old stock I had) through mine and had only one jam, which to me was acceptable. I am now using 70 mm 28G english sporters and think I have put around 200 of these through it and not had a jam.

Some s/a's are very cartridge fussy and what works in one may not work in another, which make / type of cartridge are you using. As said before is the gun clean including the 2 gas ports and lightly oiled so the gas plug is free to slide up and down the magazine tube.

Not up to speed on the varients, and will leave that to others to say which varient it is.

Its a Hatsan Escort Magnum, MK1 (it has the bolt release on the side). Not sure on the make of cartridge but I know it was 70mm, 28g, and a competion make (the clay ground dont allow game carts). Having just cleaned the gun, iy would appear theat the previous owner didn oil it up as the tiston tube was bone dry, as was the remainder of the gun (I should have preped it myself in fairess, so I only have myself to blame). Either way the gun, including the piston is well oiled. Although I have a manual I am unable to get the bolt assembly out as yet (I think thats just technique !)

Been shooting my escort for a bit now

One thing that has been ******* me off is it dose not cycle short cartridge less then 70mm or light loads

I have keep the gun very clean new O ring and light oil try it all (done a lot of reading up about it in other posts)

So i tryed somethink i cut the recoil spring down

slowly i cut 1 coil of at a time put some light/short loads in and fired then off at some clays to see how it cycles and it got better and better the more coils i cut off

the gun will cycle 65mm and light loads :good:

JUST DONT CUT TO MANY COILS OFF

Why did you not just BUY the lighter spring, they are available:

now it will recoil with less pressure on the Spring, magnum may kick like hell:

Right, just got back from a morning out with my new (secondhand) Escort, Unfortunatley there was very little to shoot at but still wanted to try the gun out (now that I have the 'O' ring in the correct place and using the right carts. I used 70mm, 28g, No6, Plastic Wad. Put about 30 odd carts thorough it, not one jam. Very happy!
