countryman
Hi I had a new one in 06, when you switch the engine off make sure that there is not to much shake from the engine, apparently it was a common fault and a major job to put right. I had mine done when it was about 6 months old, but it never did seem right, just to much vibration when you turned it off. Chris
casts_by_fly
I have the 53 plate 3.7 which has a bunch of commonality. The heater blower resistor is a common problem. You loose your blower starting with speed one, then 2, then finally 3. It is a ten minute job and a $20 part, so don't let that put you off. Love mine otherwise. Check out the jeep kj forums for more info. Rick
neil w
Recently bought a 3.0 overland crd . did not have it long and replaced starter motor £180 .But that is general ware and tear . then the auto box started to play up . got it fixed through a friend in the trade . there is a electrical plug on the side of the gearbox for the ecu . This starts to seep oil through the gasket and obviously low oil in any gearbox is no good . They are meant to sealed for life so no dipstick to check oil level . This may or may not be the gearbox in the 2.8 . The speed controller in the box was also replaced at the same time . As said a friend in the trade done this for me at cost . But the real cost is £450 . So thankful to him, he also mentioned they are one of the better auto boxes he does not work on them very often . But he gets his wages from range rover and bmw x5 auto gear boxes . THEY ARE JUNK ! he said , his words When you buy a jeep you get a lot for your hard earned cash , as standard . There a joy to drive on road and off road with the right tyres . I LOVE MINE !! if i ever sell it , i would buy another JEEP and hope it is as good as its predecessor. I think they are great motors and thoroughly recommend them .That is my 2p worth

Vipa
Had my 55 plate 2.8CRD from 20k miles and 2 year old.. my mum had it before me from demonstrator.. Rear Axle full rebuild at 30k (common) glad it was still under warranty, the bill was £6K Have changed heater resistor twice.. no biggie... Have had to get gearbox reconditioned.. lost 1st.. this was at 80K miles... these things happen.. but.. cost.. £1,200 to fix.. Other than that, she has been very reliable, comfortable, solid.. go anywhere etc... If I had one BIG criticism it would be cabin noise... the engine noise is overbearing sometimes, ok on motorway at speed but it is a loud almost agricultural power unit... driving it also feels very 'agricultural' but you will soon get used to that... VERY limited load space... You could do MUCH WORSE... it is was of the more capable off roaders out there and also does a superb crossover job, i.e. ride is more car like than truck like on the roads and M/Way.. Plenty of power too.. not sluggish when you boot her If it is a 'sport' with no cruise, factory cruise can be fitted for around £70 Parts can be had quite cheap if yiou look at independent aftermarket suppliers, OEM main dealer VERY expensive Fuel economy is shocking.. costs me between £100-110 to fill up and I ALWAYS get 350 miles out of it.. if one long M/Way run I have had 420 but that was sat on M/Way on cruise at 60MPH There ya go... was going to sell mine to get something more economnical but couldn't bring myself to do it! May have to bite the bullet soon and buy a 'normal' (boring) car though! Paul Edited February 2, 2013 by Vipa
four-wheel-drive
I was under the impression that they use merc diesels and gearboxes they do on the grand cherokee my experience of jeeps is they are mechanically pretty sound the electrics can be a nightmare if they should go wrong.
