I have just been told my freelander needs new front pads and discs. I noticed the break was slightly juddering so before the 3 yr warranty runs out in november I thought I would get it checked out.

They told me the above was shot and needs replacement. I find this hard to beleive after only 27000 miles I asked to speak to the techinician who just confirmed the above and said freelanders are heavy on the breaking. I would not buy a freelander again well annoyed they even wanted £285 to fix it Guy Salmon rip offs. I have had a quote for the front pads and discs for £125 does that seem reasonable to you guys as I aint sure. Cheers

serves you right for buying LR  My second disco bought (a good few years ago mind) 'new' from Lex Mead main dealer and when the timing chain went at 29000 miles (check at 60k I think the book said) they nor LR wanted to know. Found out the engine number didn't match the log book, LM had replaced a faulty engine prior to delivery and not altered the paperwork it turned out. My solicitor said not to waste money pursuing a case as it wasn't illegal and the chances of a win were v. v. slim. AA didn't want to get involved. Last LR I bought.

Ask LB he'll tell you what he thinks of them (LR) :(

quick thing to try first....

nice clear road, get upto about 60mph, jump on the brakes until you get down to about 25mph and then coast to a stop. sit there for a few minutes and do it again.

its a handy trick and will work a lot of the time.

also discs and pads are classed as consumables, discs are only designed to be at there best for about 30000miles, if its an auto or you use the foot brake instead of the handbrake when you are stopped discs can start to warp quite quickly.

price sounds about right for a main dealer, As for how long they've lasted it all depends on you and how hard you are on them. 27K is quite a long time for pads but not that long for discs. Its the sort of thing thats dead easy to do yourself depending whether you mind getting your hands dirty but that will be the only way to improve on the £125 quote.

p.s my fourtrack discs are just coming up to 130K and I really must change them soon :(

If so its almost allowed :(

I bought it with full printed service records for the first 8 years of its life before I bought it and was serviced every 6K and all it ever needed was small stuff. All the oils inc gearbox diff etc were changed on the button. brakepads were about every 40K but no discs and to be honest they don't look too bad. I've done 30K in it and though a bit agricultural all I've done is re-newed the shocks and basic maintenence.

Get a jap machine when you chuck in the freelander its worth it!
