Shoot.The.Crow
Iv recently acquired 2 new permissions to shoot and was up at one today, set up the hide, put out decoys etc and there were loads of birds about but none really comin into the "killin zone" if u wanna call it that, they were hammerin a field of veg all day and had loads of shots at them but never ruffled a feather! Thinkin of gettin my eyes tested I think, "couldn't hit a barn door with a handful of peas" as they say lol tried everything, giving them lead the lot but after today my moral is at an all time low lol
Cranfield
Perhaps a session on sporting clays might help. Sometimes you just need to hit a few things to get your mojo back.

bruno22rf
We all go through periods like this so dont let it get you down.Think of the best shots that you ever pulled off-you're still as good as that.Try and get the birds to offer you your favourite shot by carefully placing the hide/decoys and start from there.Relax, take your time, swing smoothly and follow thru-if you use a double it sometimes helps to make you concentrate more if you only load one shell. Tod
When you say you cant get them into the kill zone i take it you having a crack at them from a good distance then ?, what carts are you using, you need a good hard hitting shell for distance crows, in my experience if your shooting them past 40 yards always use no5's in 32g or even 34g loads for a good clean kill but if you can get them to commit to decoys a good hard hitting 32g no6 pigeon shell does the job but i always use Black Gold 32g no5's for crows, try building a better hide with a roof blended in to the surroundings, use plenty of good decoys and a flapper and put a sentry up somewhere, crows are notoriosly clever but when you get everything right they can be the most stupid too, invest in a caller too, a primos power call does the job ok. TIGHTCHOKE
I took a mate out last week and he set up about 900 yds away from me. Later in the day I went for a wander to see how he was doing as I had heard 3 shots in quick succession a couple of times. When I arrived and asked what he'd been shooting, he pointed to the newly ploughed field behind him and said he'd killed the field through boredom. Highbird70
Was it windy on that field?
pontbeck
A friend, who shoots rifles, bought a semi a few weeks ago ,then complained he wasn't killing pigeons with it, would I take him clay shooting to put him right. We went shooting clays and he was doing reasonably OK and I told him. He said yeah but these are close ( 30-40 yds).I asked him where he was trying to shoot the pigeons and he pointed to the foot of a rise in the ground 70-80 yds away. That's your problem not your technique I told him and he was amazed that he couldn't kill at those distances with 28 grams no 6 shot
Shoot.The.Crow
Yeah to quote it was windy and it was hard gettin the birds to decoy the day ended up more full of pop shots at them! Shootin a field seems a popular past time lol
subsonicnat
I would start to question the distances you are shooting at my friend, try doing a bit of distance checking, when walking try to guess how far a lamp post is, Etc, amazing thing is, See how far out you are. it is not very far. . Always put a marker out for the distance you can shoot(CLAYS) , That you were hitting ?. You may find you will hit more then: Edited February 12, 2013 by subsonicnat
Highbird70
Wind and distance...like other have mentioned, When I started...and sometimes I still do it, I count the distance, by walking to the furthest side of my pattern...mormally I count 45 yards, that will be my external side of the "arrow" pattern, this depends on the wind direction and the position of the hide. Thats my marker, I know that inside that marker I can try to kill a bird, I tend to have my killing zone, inside the pattern, between 15/20 yards up to 40/45. The wind....that its the ost common cause of why birds are missed, normally you shoot in light winds or moderate, but if you find yourself shooting in strong wind (that its the best way to decoy pigeons), the dinamic of your shooting as to change completely, the birds will move far much faster and will be very prone to sudden change of direction, that might have been the cause of you missing so many birds. Don't give up...it all about experience and training your eye to adapt to the situation you in for the day, the people that personally know me here, they will tell you, that I'm always proud of my miss, but that is the way to learn.
