pigeonblasterian
Seen some stupid videos and this is another to add to the list. You should poke the dreys first in case any owls are using them. They usually fly out then and you can give it a barrel after that.
Reece
Good video, but pigeonblasterian has a good point. You should poke the dreys first to make sure owls or something aren't using them. Unless you already know for sure that it is squirrels using them, such as if you've seen them using the drey on other occasions.
TwoSmokingBarrels
Got to be careful with the dog retrieving squirrels, can cause some serious damage if its not completely dead.
Ant8681
The squirrel had been there for ages, I was just practicing retrieving and as for the drey poking they were far too high, I had been out previously with a 9 meter pole and had no joy, I take your point though I wont make a video about it again. Bleeh
Me and my mate, both about 17. Two drays, one on the right, one on the left. I shot the right one first, a Tawny owl flew out of the one on the left. So yeah, I **** a brick, and now I am certainly pro-poking. 955i
I may be wrong but at around 33 seconds in when the drey is hit a bird takes flight from directly behind it that appears to be flying a bit erratically.

click
U are wrong bud, there was sod all in those dreys :( Think your going to be banging your head against a brick wall with a few on here with this Ant, most have probably only read/heard or watched on Youtube about Drey shooting. I shoot with Antony on a regular basis and although he can get a bit trigger happy wether it be with a shotty or an Air Rifle (Sorry mate), I am 100% certian that he would ahve taken every precution to make sure there were no Owl's in them. I'm sorry but poking drays is the only precaution you can take to make sure there is no unintended animals in them.
955i
I never said there was an owl in there, nor even that the bird was in the drey. It looks to me that it was on a branch behind the drey and may have been pricked by shot passing through, but that is just a thought looking at its erratic flight path. It may have just been startled and not known which way to go, but the bird is definately in the vid. Wasn't looking to offend, just an observation. Fisheruk
Can't do drey poking here. Far to many Reds about. You don't really need to poke. Just stake it out early in the morning before day break and you can check out what appears and be selective on what you shoot.
evo
i would personally never shoot drey,s only because of any other animals being in them ,certainly think poking them is the way forward and if they are to high to poke then dont shoot them, just my opinion,,i would rather shoot them in the open at least that way your 100% certain of what your shooting,,Better still take an air rifle out its a great way of shooting squirrels and will improve your stalking skills, but well done anyway
Alyshy
Up here on Anglesey there are not many greys left but the red squirrel protectors don't like them bring shot. They trap them, corner them and give them a sharp blow to the back of the head. Only around 100 pairs of greys left here now.
Ant8681
I love to shoot them with the air rifle, in fact its my favourite form of shooting, I was asked by the landowner to shoot the dreys thats why I went for it, I would prefer to save them all to shoot off my bait tables!
