Pump Club Member Gun Advice

As an owner of an Over & Under, it excludes me from Pump Club?...... and I would love to join.

I have £300 to spend on a second gun (Pump Action) and would like the following;

I want a true Classic pump action shotgun....so that rules out all the new ones.

Barrels to be shorter than 28" (for Pigeon)

Spare parts easy to get.

A short pump would be great but not a must have.

Has to put a smile on your face when used

I have owned a Winchester Pump many years ago that was great fun....What should I get next?

Your input will be valued....I know I should buy an Auto so please don't try and sway me towards the dark side.

I'm currently saving for a good Wingmaster or I might get a rough one and refurb it... they seem to be the king of pumps.

Looks good apart from the poor extended stock job... added character?

Smith and Wesson 3000?

An old Mossberg 500?

An 870, or a Mossberg 500, or an Ithaca if you can find one (good luck with that), all classic pump guns. The Benelli Nova is quite new and not classic-looking, and is out of your budget so we'll remove that one.

The problem with the Mossberg, a lot of them have 28" barrels, however if you're looking around you should be able to find one with shorter.

The 870 is the best of them in my opinion, and you can find them in all sizes, though 28" is still very common. Mine is a 26", which feels just right. On the Nova it is a 24", but overall the guns are both similar in length.

I would look for a second-hand 870 or 500, if you can find a 870 Wingmaster go for it, great guns.

I know where there are TWO Ithacas!

Alright, *alright*. I'll bite. So, where *are* these (alleged) Ithacas? (I should should warn you - if the answer turns out to be, "in my gun cabinet, ha, ha, ha", I shall be very irritated, *indeed*.)

Regards,

Mark.

The Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight looks to be what I need, it just looks the part.....very hard to find here is a five shot http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Shotgun/Ithaca-Model-37-gun-for-sale-gs113171.aspx 1960's

How'ever The Remington 870 Wingmaster is a nice looking gun & may be easier to find a good one.

http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Shotgun/Winchester-1300-gun-for-sale-gs8301.aspx Very cheap at £115 for a Winchester Pump (sold).

Any more I should consider?

Thepasty, you have alot to answer for....I told my wife it was all your fault that I can't buy her a card tomorrow.

Nice to see you have another member to join the club, let us know what you think...shooting, build quality etc. when you have had a go with 870.

I'm sure she was understanding ;)

Good to hear, was my first shotgun, i havnt worked out why i hit more yet, ribbed barrel or LOP? the manufrance has a fair few similarities to the 870, just the dismentions are slightly different, and its lighter which was nice, think it has a alu receiver, where as the 870 is steel.

Ozzy518 Everyone Needs a Pump in their lives, I don't want one "I Need One".

The feeling is like.....your wife buying a pair of shoes or a handbag....They Need to Have", same for me...... well thats how I explained it to her.

When you have one in your cabinet and you are making the choice of gun to take for that days shooting......they take some leaving behind.
