silver fox 1
hi all, i've just brought some hornady v-max in 55 gr 224, i've just opened the box and found their not boat tail as i was expecting, the last lot of 50 gr 224 v-max were boat tail. so i phoned the shop where purchased them and they haven't come across this either, there nothing on the box to say if they are boat tail or not, has anyone come across this or knows the reason why?. regards fs1
owdnorthener
Hi, I just looked on google, for the Hornady site and find there are some boat tail and some not. It appears that boat tail are mostly on bullet weights of 50gr and under. I would think for reloading that boat tail will be easier to use though. I just thought it a bit strange there's nothing on the box to say if they are boat tail or not. Yes boat tail are suppose to be easier, looks like i'm about to find out. Reloading is new to me. Bewsher500
Are you worried about seating or worried about BC? just put a small chamfer in the case and they will seat easy enough only become an issue with much bigger bullets IMO FYI - 52gr Amax are BT and cheaper usually.....with no discernible difference on charlie! coyotemaster
50s are BT, 55s are not in Hornady Vmax, Sierra Blitz Kings are BT in 55gr and have a decent BC that goes with it.
kent
Boat tail or flat base the BC gain wont add up to a hill of beans for UK fox and vermin shooting. For ease of seating just chamfer the ID of the case nack with a VLD deburring tool
