jgguinness
Hi all. Well today I was passing a garage with a 04 plate Warrior on the pitch, 154k on the clock, up for £3750. My 300tdi Disco ES on a P plate is due for replacement soon, and I've had a fancy for a pickup so I thought I would have a look around it. Took it out for a spin and the ride was quite harsh in comparison to the Disco. The I guess Diff lock light (green, on the instrument panel) constantly flashed when in 2wd High, but went to solid green when in 4wd High. Slight rumble from I think the crank pulley area. When in 4wd the drive train was a little noisier than in 2wd. Apart from that it drove ok, quite a bit of poke, steering nice and light, but I just felt a little rougher than the Disco. Are they all like this, it is only the first one I have driven, but wasn't overly impressed. Apparently the previous owner drove to London and back on a regular basis, but based on the test drive I think it would have been hard work. Kind regards Jonathan
richie223
They do suffer crank pulley problems, and also 4wd Solonoid failure which is why the lights are flashing
houlsby
Hate mine. It's the most uncomfortable thing in the universe. Mines jacked up to the sky running MUDs there a harsh ride because there on torsion bars on the front and pre-historic leafs on the rear. But I'm not scared of throwing it down a big hill, or getting it upto the doors in mud. Wheras my range rover would go into "I'm scared" mode if you put it in a tractor rut whilst lamping. And the other weekend I drilled a 50mm hole in the roof for the lightforce.. You wouldn't do that on a range rover. There cheap to run.. Mines dragging 25mpg. Also.. I'm on a classic older shape 98.. I'm sure my diff lock light goes out when in 2wd.. Which may explain why it's driving like ****. It may just be the switch in the diff.. Just had to change mine costs £44 from stealers. al4x
Try a decent nick one and you will notice the difference. The 4wd light needs fixing after that the ride is different from a disco but you will find you can certainly throw them round corners with a lot more confidence. Would I buy one on that mileage the answer is probably not
four-wheel-drive
The harsh ride may be due to tyre pressures when I test drove my Suzuki Vitara the ride was terrible when I checked the pressures for some reason both of the tyres on one side was 28p the other side both was 38p when all four should have been 23p. A friend had a short wheel base Land Rover and changed it for a warrior pickup as he needed the extra room for carrying logs and stuff and he loves it he says that it is much nicer to drive than his old Defender how it compares to a Disco I do not now. jgguinness
Thanks for the replays guys. I know the mileage is on the high side, and following some googling the crank pulleys do give probs. the flashy diff light is clearly something knackered/not functioning correctly. I will try a few others and go from there. Jonathan
al4x
Crank pulley isn't mega basically they have a pulley with a rubber damper on when this fails your alternator belt lacks drive. Pulley itself is£100 and on mine fitted for half that
