Spraying your pen

Recommended Posts

I alway used to use lime to treat my release pen its a bit expensive but I feel its worth it. as this will kill off any worm left on the ground but it is hard work, first its best to rake up any leaves from the pens first to clear the floor these can be burnt in heaps in the pen, then cover the floor with a good covering of lime.

couple bags of 25kg hydrated lime from a builders merchants, bucket and a scoop to throw it around

6 quid ish a bag, we use 3 or 4 to do our pens, under shelters and around feeders and any well used areas where bugs may lurk

I use Roundup round the outside, early may then a follow up in early June. Gives a veg free area under the elec fence.

Dont usually do anything spray wise in the pen, grazon is good for nettles of they are starting to get on top of any planted shrubs but dont go to mad with it as poults love nettles.
