T-Bolt94
Good afternoon folks. I am hoping to build a permanent hide or two under reliable pigeon flight lines on a few crop fields I shoot over. I am interested to know how others would go about building one. I was thinking two posts in the front two in the back to make a rectangle then wrap some either chicken wire or old trawler net around the posts to allow for bushes and branches to grow up through. I am also debating about a roof. Thanks
la bala
could use an old fishing for roof.
Tomh111
Ive made one buy getting some fencing posts 3-4 depending on size then use netting followed by some conifer branches just to break it up
team tractor
Mine is 9 years old now and made of pallets all round with a post in 2 corners . The brambles grow round it every summer but flight lines move through out the year gradually across the field and back again
Bluebarrels
Yep another vote for using pallets ive got a perm hide and ive used it for a couple of years now, everythings grown through the pallets and gives a good natural hide BB
al4x
Yup another for pallets, 4 and its job done perfect size and height and you can just put a net over when you use it
Jesse James
I have started to make several hides around some of my crop fields. these are with pallets, sides, roof etc. the roof is able to be dropped down or up if raining and also added a bench seat. I need to add more green and black paint and foliage to the sides and behind it. Ghost netting is placed in front of this. http://s1336.beta.photobucket.com/user/jessejames43/media/photo_zps36e0e502.jpg.html Edited March 4, 2013 by Jesse James

Need to have it so as I don't need a net. So pallets sound like a great idea as they are fairly light cause a few of my sights are a right old trek. Jesse James
As you I also have one with pallets in the front and placed into the gaps is plenty of natural foliage and no need for a net. Remember you need to get in and out of it so make a side which can open, I have made 4 now and need to make a further 10 at least in the different fields. I have some Fields which have three hides and if looking down from the air are in a triangle to bounce pigeons back and forth between 3 of us. and to cover crops of course better. I enjoy making them and to be honest once you make your first it takes no time at all. that large double seat one of mine took twenty mins and 4 pallets, and of cut sheets, your local wood place has these off cuts for free. just ask them. looking forward to seeing your hides. lee Edited March 4, 2013 by Jesse James

JDog
Has anyone mentioned yet that these permanent hides may not be directly under the flight lines and will therefore be ineffective? It is a pain to erect net hides every time but at least if the field has been watched net hides can be erected in exactly the right place. Jesse James
Thats why my hides are in the position that they are. As said placed under flight line and why I have three or four hides in one field too. These also allow birds to be pushed back and forth between hides. I have to build at least twenty more really to cover more crop fields and flight lines. I for one would not place hides on any old place, have had this permission for 9 years and know flight lines and best place to place hides. It's about knowing your permission and flight lines. See my other pictures in the link to my hides. Lee
