bunny_blaster
On Thursday of last week I made the trip to go collect the Archer I agreed to buy off a member on here. I couldn't wait to get it home and set up but the weather was against me. I finally managed to get out Saturday and get it sorted. After what seemed an age trying to get the scope focused I headed out to a small piece of ground where I saw 5 foxes the last time I went with the lamp but they were all lamp shy. I was there for 2 hours and saw nothing apart from a badger. I left for home pretty miffed but I had got use to how the archer performs, they really are the dogs bollucks. Any way I headed back out tonight to the same patch as before and soon as I got into the first field I spotted a fox about 150 yards away, I got the rifle on the sticks and attached the archer to the scope. I found the fox and started calling, it came straight in and once it got to about 60 yards I gave a quick shout and it stopped, first one down. They really haven't got a clue your there, it's great!! It was a heavily pregnant vixen. I carried on and spotted another. This one again came straight in to the call but stopped about 70 yards away and just started smelling the ground. I could see a rabbit just behind the fox so I assume it could smell that. I watched the fox for a few seconds which was totally oblivious to me and then dropped it. This was another vixen but had no obvious signs of cubs inside her. These archers are awesome and I'm pretty sure my lamp has just been made redundant. al4x
Nice one there is nothing quite like shooting a completely oblivious fox, so different to lamping and being able to wait while they come in really close
Peskyfoxs
As a recent convert to the Archer I still marvel at watching oblivious wildlife even when I'm not taking a shot, well done on the 2 foxs.
Medic1281
Watching wildlife with good night vision is brilliant, you don't see the natural behaviours when shining a lamp around. I think night vision also results in a better kill ratio as your picking your shots carefully and not rushing them before the quarry bolts. al4x
it helps if you are somewhere a little dodgy with limited safe areas, you get the chance to wait for them to get into a decent shooting position. Range estimation is the interesting one though getting that right takes a while
Medic1281
That's very true al4x, you certainly need to know your ground well before going out with the nv I think.
