njc110381
I'm thinking of buying a bulk load of cartridges when (if the chief likes me) I get my cert. The chap at the shop said he gives a big discount on everything you buy at the same time as a new gun. Is it worth taking a chance and grabbing some cheap loads while I'm there? I've read so many comments on this subject, I'm not sure what to think! Also, are there any I should steer clear of because of poor quality? Cheers guys (again!) tosspot
tried a box of 250 CCI Claybusters the other day will not be buying any more i think you get what you pay for my advice would be to try out several different loads in smaller quantities decide what you get on best with then purchase in bulk personally i like RC Titano and Hull Sovereign FITASC in eights or RC Prestige if you must use fibre might be a bit contenious here but i say find a cartridge for clays that you like and stick with it across the various disciplines but i am sure that there are those that will disagree cheers TP
MC
If I were you I wouldn't rush out and buy 1000's of cartridges, especially cheap ones. You might not like them. At the end of the day they all go bang and shoot shot out of the barrel but some are dirty, Some recoil like hell, some are very noisy(BTMS have you got any more Baikal carts yet?) I would buy perhaps 250 of something like Express Pro comp or Eley Superb. These are both cartridges I like and get on well with. Just try as many different types as you can and settle on one type. throdgrain
After trying loads of different sorts Ive settled on Gamebore Blue Diamond in no. 9 for Skeet and no. 8 for all other sorts of clay shooting. Good quality, suit both my guns, so thats good enough. Im more vaired about pigeon shooting carts, probably because I dont shoot as many. Lord Geordie
I would say go for 9s for skeet i beleive you can get 9.5s too I just use 7.5s as i use them for DTL and ABT too so it's save hassle to use them on skeet also I also use fuller chokes on Skeet i tend to stick with 1/2 and 3/4 for all disiplins BUT skeet shooters tend to use open chokes. I guess what i am saying is It's all about PERSONAL preference. I also bought a batch of CCI Claybusters and has 2 out of 10 misfires Now i bought a batch of Winchester trapmax and they do the job just dandy £98 for 1000 BUT they are 7.5s and i am not sure of the size they go to?. I was shooting ABT with a lad the other day who was using Black Diamond carts (silly money) and he was NOT impressed with them at all I gave him a few of my cheapo winchesters and he was hitting them fine I know the Black diamonds were designed for better pattern etc BUT as i say the lad shot fine with Winchesters If you find a clay ground who sells boxes of carts by the 25s then try a few different types to find what YOUR happy using. Gordon R
"I was shooting ABT with a lad the other day who was using Black Diamond carts (silly money) and he was NOT impressed with them at all " Agree 100% - bought a load and not impressed. Dear and questionable whether they are better than the Victory Sporters, which are 2/3 the price.
njc110381
So far, the ones I have used at the club are Saga skeet 28g & 24g. I liked the 28g ones best. I also tried some 24g Winchester X3, nice looking but nothing special. My shoulder was slightly knocked around after 50 shots with the 28g saga carts, but I also hit more with them so can't moan! Those black golds look the part, but looks don't score points do they I might just stick with the saga ones until I'm a bit more experienced. I don't really know what good points to look for yet. I'll bear the CCI in mind, and leave them well alone! Cheers guys Also, I thought you had to use 9 shot for skeet? Is that in the rules, or just the recommended size? I personally prefer Express super comp in 9's for Skeet and Express World Cup 7.5's for everything else (clay wise anyway), I don't think they really break the clays any better than Hull sovereigns or RC's but I still prefer them.
