TIGHTCHOKE
The birds may be there while the tractor is still drilling!
la bala
i have seen pigeons on the same field as the drill, but they usually find them within a day or too if they are in the area.
TJ91
The drills of today don't leave a lot on top so unless a pilot error there won't be much for the pigeons to eat. Peas have always been my favorite crop as pigeons seem to hit them throughout the year. Best time I have found is to be when they first break through the surface then again just before the combine rattles through them.
JDog
Leave them for three days and ensure that you get there before anyone else.
rayhallam
Leave them for three days and ensure that you get there before anyone else. being a newbie to anything other than barley and i know this might be a daft question but do you decoy with a magnet ? JDog
I personally do use a magnet but I have to say that on drillings there is possibly less need for one. Static decoys may be just as effective.
pete1dart
The good thing about peas is they will hit them all the time they are in the ground, and when combined. I would start with just decoys then use a magnet if they arnt commiting to the pattern. I tend to use they magnet more later on when the crop is higher and the decoys are less visible
dawntredder
i tend to leave it 2 or 3 days after drilling....20 shell decoys & a couple of floaters does the trick..good luck fella
pigeonblasterian
The pigeons will clear up any peas on the surface very quickly once they are found. When they start to show through the soil the crows like them and will pull them up. The pigeons round me do not seem to bother the peas much until they are about 2 inch high. kitchrat
In my area (Essex), peas used to be the Holy Grail, but nowerdays it seems the pigeons can take it or leave it, mainly eating OSR with side dishes of tree buds, clover in paddocks and anything else where they are hard to shoot! Even pea stubble is a big yawn to them. Good luck!!
