Hi guys I have a baikal izh-61 rifle and was hoping to try and mod it up to hunting specs it's a springer it only puts out 6ft/lbs at the minute but I don't know if by putting a Titan spring in it is just going to be to much for the rifle , not that it was expensive so if it brakes it brakes but just wondered if anyone had done something like this and if it worked or not

I think it was only designed to be a target spring powered (ie only 6 ft lb), so whocking a stonking super spring in will probably make it shake itself to bits in no time and you will not be able to hit a barn with it, let alone a barn door. Save the money you would have spent on it, sell it to a bell target target enthusiast and buy something designed to shoot at 12 ft lb!

I agree with Mole,if you spent enough money on it then it could be made to work but you would be wiser to buy a second hand rifle that was built to run at 12ft/lb or higher.Having dealt with Turkish engineering companies I would'nt touch any of their guns but a lot of people on here rate them so it might be worth having a look.Otherwise, set yourself a budget (realistically it needs to be at least £150) and have a look on Guntrader.Anything that catches your eye- you can ask for opinions on this site before you commit to buy but dont hang around cos good guns sell fast .There's a BSA Mercury on the site for £100-if its in good condition then thats a bargain, theres also an Annie 335 thats been on there for ages-not many people have experience with these guns which is a shame because ,with a little tuning, they will match 99% of springers on the market. The Original/Diana 45 is also a heck of a lot of gun that is cheap second hand-maybe because its not too kind on the eye but its a potent tool and very under- rated.Shop around and take your time-thats half the fun of buying a gun :good:

Is there many people that would trade air rifle for fishing gear ? Because I have some good carp stuff

put an advert in the sales section mate asking for a swap :good:

edit - not sure if you have to be a member for 6 months before you can do that...

Zentaur, York guns might buy it off you? Ive always found them friendly and helpfull. If your strapped for cash you could get an SMK some of their "higher" end guns are okay for bunny bashing and the like or no one can bad mouth the classic BSA mercury. Really your going to be looking at spending around 100 quid minimun for any gun up to the job, and another 30 at least for a decent optic to put on it unless you are happy with open sights.

Think carefully before getting rid of any equipment-unless you are 100% sure you will never need it again.Practice with your current gun while you save for a better one. There are many ways to make money if you are shrewd-bit of weeding here or grass cutting there soon adds up (try going to car boot sales then selling the items on Ebay)-designer clothing can easily treble your money if not more (I bought a Suzuki "Relentless" sweatshirt for £1 and sold it for £36 on the bay).Be patient,if you are determined you will do it and the gun will mean so much more to you if you have earned it the hard way-everything comes to he who waits :)

I would serioisly question the gun putting out anywhere near 6fpe. I bought one of these for my Son as a trainer. It was pushing out just over 4 fpe. I found the lack of a safety mechanism on the cocking arm a bad flaw, having had it nearly take my fingers off when I cocked it to replace the mag, I chopped it up. All I did was put it down butt first when it was cocked and WHACK

The accuracy wasn't that good either, and was only used on a 10m range at home.

If you have good quality carp gear then I would imagine a swap would be a possibility on the sales forum! The Hatsan Striker or the XS19 rifles aren't too bad for their money. Second hand the come up.at around £100 - £120 at the lower end.
