kennett
Hi, having a bit of a problem with my ruger 10/22, its a laminate stock, target barrel and had a trigger kit so in theory should be fairly accurate and has been for the last 2 years or so. Recently I have been struggling with my grouping, one 5 shot group will be sub inch at 50 yards, then the next will be all over the place. Just trying to work through possible causes, should the barrel on a .22 be floated or are they not that fussy? Any other suggestions appreciated
russian sniper
Try a different scope and make sure the mounts arent loose
kennett
Cheers, have already tried that, even got all the torque settings from the net and torqued everything to the right numbers. Im thinking possibly bullets are hitting the moderator or barrel needs floating, just not sure why its suddenly off!
steve_b_wales
Do you have a Bipod fiited to it? If so, and it's been over tightened, it can affect the barrel from free floating.
crossy 666
Try it with the mod off mate
Paladin
Have you tried removing the barrel and cleaning the face of the receiver and barrel and checking the clamp isn't sitting on crud? Paladin
Underdog
What kind of bad group is it from the good one? Like two small groups maybe? Check for head space issues if the barrel has been off and check the firing pin is not damaged and it's full travel is not hindered. U. Albert 888
Which ammo are you using. my cz likes Winchester subs &eley sport, will group cci minimags, but the remmington thunderbolts are not too good. All will go through the same hole at 25 yrds but the thunderbolts wont

Any other suggestions appreciated Don't think the target barrel should be free floated on your 10/22, as they can suffer from barrel droop, due to the way the barrel is attached to the receiver. I know mine is not free floated and I have no problems with grouping. Reggiegun
kennett
Cheers everyone dont have a bipod so can rule that out, and il try with the mod off if it ever stops raining! underdog the bad groups are probably around 2" so still rabbit head sized but its just annoying! Albert 888 i use win subs and have always got on well with them but have been switching between new and old style boxes, dont know if there is any difference in manufacture. Cheers reggiegun, i didn't think it used to be floated but best to check! Looks like working through what people have said. Thanks for the help Edited April 13, 2013 by kennett
Elk hunter
Check the crown for any damage as this can effect to your grouping.
Albert 888
Don't know much about 10/22's is it the auto with rotary mag, maybe the mag could do with cleaning. try and cycle a bullet normaly then extract unfired and check the bullet out for marks it maybe feeding wrong and clipping the head on the way into the chamber , mine does this when I use my old mag on the last bullet as the spring is week. reggiegun
Also if you have a sak mod, split it and give it a good clean, its surprising how much **** it collects, mine does anyway with winchester subs. Reggiegun
codling99
only time my .22 goes awol is when i clean barrel, dont bother now, unless it really bad, then i need to waste quite a few rounds to dirty barrel up again before it groups ok again. kennett
Cheers Albert you might be onto something there, have noticed a few times that the odd bullet skims the bottom.of the chamber and takes a scrape off the lead, might try my other mags and see if its any different. Good thinking that man!
