  1. 1. Do you think we should have to have a SGC to buy Cartridges? (from a rfd)

No, not aware of any serious abuse and most places are pretty good at self policing. They're not going to sell to any old scrote who wanders in and clearly doesn't shoot. It addresses a problem that doesn't exist and smacks of Turkey's voting for Christmas. If we volunteer for more controls on shotguns, it won't be long before FAC type restrictions start appearing. Land restrictions? Carts locked in a cabinet (even if you bulk buy 5000)? Ammo limits? Variation to buy a new gun and justifying each one?

As a SGC holder I feel I have a duty of care to others when I buy, use or store guns and ammunition and I would think the vast majority of others would feel the same. If I choose to give a non SGC holder some shells you can be damn sure I will be more than happy that they are going to be using them for a legitimate and legal purpose and are not going to pass them on to someone else. If you think about what would happen if the Police get hold of a couple of scrotes causing trouble with a box of shells and a home made gun. During questioning it transpires that they got the shells from you. That I would think you would be a fairly unpleasant conversation with your local FEO.

The levels of security for shotgun ammunition has been left to the individual to decide on. This is where we should all take responsibility for our own actions rather than rely on a rigid set of rules set down by someone with no idea of our individual circumstances. It seems a fairly old fashioned way of doing things these days but I think if you have been granted a SGC then you have been judged by your local firearms dept to be capable of looking after your kit as far as can be reasonably expected. The security may only need to be a cupboard in some cases. At the other end of the scale you may feel you need to keep your shells locked in a cabinet. Mine are locked up to keep little fingers out of there.

yes... i dont trust the 16 yr old so mine are in seperate safe.... i know what i was like when i was a kid

Lol I remember when my dad went out I used to push carts into foam and shoot them with my air rifle in the garden. He'd kill me if he found out! But they were the days we used to walk down the rivers and canal with guns out with no one batting an eye. All changed now.

Yes you should have a cert for gettin carts. No reason for them otherwise. And locking them away a good idea if you have kids at the age of experimenting!!!
