game_boy
Just had to switch ammo from Federal to Sako. Bushwear tell me they cant get any more 100gn bullets due to America not making enough or stockpiling them. So I pumped for Sako as I wasn't paying over £30+ for Norma. Any other T3 owners have success with this round? I'm raging as I fired off the last 2 Fed's into a wooden post 100yrd away from the high seat and grouped 0.5inch!! Please tell me the Sako will be ok?! I've not had them on a zero yet, the rifle is cleaned now so ready for a zero when the wind dies down. GB. Grandalf
GB, You can't tell until you try them in your rifle. So many differences affect the flight of the bullet. Twist, barrel length, etc. You have just got to try them. I have a 22/250 Tikka T3. Federal are not the most accuarate but perfectly usable- but, like you, l can't get them. So I tried Norma and many others. None of them were very good. Tried Remmington Ballistic Tipped - Fantastic. Bought 5 boxes. Next three foxes were wounded and not killed. Did some expansion tests with polystyrene blocks and found the expansion, especially at at close range, was rubbish. Next up was Winchester Ballistic Silver Tips. Cost a fortune. They are superb. Accurate as hell and hit home like a small handgrenade. So I stay with them and hide the credit card slips from the Memsahib! You don't use many shots with a stalking or foxing rifle. It can often take hours of fieldcraft to get you in position to take the shot. Just got to use the best ammo you can put through your individual rifle. Good luck with the test. steve_b_wales
I've used PRVI Partizan 100grn SP in my Tikka T3 Lite with no issues at all. Worth trying a box.
Redgum
sako are a good round, my old Remmy 243 loved them and virtually only them. As 100gr in 243 go I think they are pretty quick and very hard hitting. It was the cost of these and fluctuating supply that led me to the reloading route. This is another advantage of reloading your own, I have 600rnds worth so supply shortages shouldnt effect me for a while.

WGD
Didn't realise there was a shortage of power shok, that's what I use... might try and pick up some on my travels.
Vince Green
Sako are a good make with a good reputation, you should have no problems with them. Try a few and provided they are OK buy in a bit of stock while you can because ammo supply is getting worse at the moment.

game_boy
Cheers guys. Think they had 80g in but no 100g. Pain in the *** if you can get them. If the Sako are ok I'll buy more to keep a stock.
game_boy
Well finally got down to putting some rounds through of the new Sako 100gr. They seem to be fine, although at distance seem to have a bigger drop off than the Federals. This is my 3 shot group at 100yrds using rear sand bag to reduce human error. Measured 0.5 inches and supposed to be 1inch high. Cant seem to move that first pic round, the shots are on top of the bull not to the left! I then moved back to 150yrds and produced this group which seems pretty good at just over an inch. Then back to 175 and was surprised to see it dropped so much, about 2.5 inches. Don't recall that much drop with the Federals. Good grouping mind you at an inch. There was a fair wind blowing to that would account for the left to right movement. To average things up I have moved the scope 1 click up so its a generous inch high and it should give an overall better picture.
