How late will the pigeons feed

I am currently shooting over a struggling rape crop with varying results. I have always done better in the afternoon on this permission but I am wondering just how late I can shoot it. I could potentially be setup and shooting for 4pm but would this be too late. I haven't done much reconnasence due to working away, but hopefully they will give me a few hours sport.

How have you found it

I had a couple days last week on drillings. I got sat down and loaded gun at 4.15 and 4.30, had a nice few hours shooting.

A lot depends on weather and i guess distance from roost.

Hot days are best and closer to roost, longer they feed.

I'm sure others on here with more knowledge and experience will give you their comments , but if my local area is anything to go by they seem to be taking their "evening meal" later as the days have got lighter.

For example the " quiet" time seems to be between 2/4pm and the last time i was out it didn't start getting livelier until 5/7.00pm.

As always there are no rules, what you get today won't be the same as yesterday or tomorrow.

One thing you can be sure of is just as you've decided to bin it for the day and start picking up your decoys or taking your hide down you'll see some birds then.

kind regards

I would normally want to be set up by around 2pm, with a view to shooting 4 hours+. Setting up at 4 is ok, but the risk is run that the birds that are already on the field when you arrive may have already had a good fill and won't be too eager to return.

Popped into our local roosting wood for a few hours last night, got there at 6, pigeons started to arrive in numbers around 7.30, last bird shot at 8.40(ish)

They are feeding late now with the bright warm days we are getting.
