TIGHTCHOKE
Having bought a pair for my rotary and wanting some more to use as bouncers I have decided to make some of my own. The Tyvek material used for the wings is made by Dupont, I have enough for about 20 pairs of wings. I have managed to find some of the reinforced plastic for the body. The only problem now is sourcing some of the carbon rods that are used to stretch out the wings. I can by them from UKShootWareHouse. But I would much rather find a cheaper alternative. Any ideas from the P.W. collective?
fenboy
How about some thin tig welding stainless wire ?
TIGHTCHOKE
How about some thin tig welding stainless wire ? They need to be flexible and to return to dead straight after flexing, I think wire would bend and stay bent. I'm wonderering about thin fibreglass rods. fenboy
The stainless wire is fairly flexible , I doubt they would flex enough to bend . If you going to buy glass rods you may as well get the UKSW ones as they are only around £1.50 a pair.
TIGHTCHOKE
Yes but by bulk buying I hope to keep the cost down.

sitsinhedges
I understand model shops sell the carbon fibre spars, and the corrugated plastic board is called corex. I got some tyvek underfelt for the same purpose a while back but never got around to a build so it will be interesting to see how you get on

TIGHTCHOKE
Thank you gentlemen, I have a couple of days off followed by 6 night shifts, Time to get creative!!!!
TIGHTCHOKE
Well the rods arrived from Ebay on Saturday, thanks for the link FB Rather than copy the real ones and have a body fashioned from corrugated plastic. I may make the wings fit an existing decoy and add a large fanned tail.
Jesse James
B&Q buddy last ones I bought were £1.50 for 3 foot length. Different diameters too. You may need to paint them black , that are white.

Thanks, I've just looked on their website and the cheapest Fibre glass rod is £4:09 I'm using thinner rods for the wings and got 10 delivered for £5:95 from Finesse Floats of Leicestershire. I may make some floaters with the finished decoys and the cheapest fibre glass rods come from tent repair kits. Cheers T.C.

PhilR
Ok how about these then. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/carbon-fibre-stems-600mm-10-/270975171044?pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&var=&hash=item3f1760f9e4 Thanks for the heads up on this. I ordered a packet of ten yesterday and they've just arrived, so good service there. A pity the largest diameter is 1.5mm as the ones with my Hypaflappers are that too and haven't survived very well. I'm thinking of doubling up and taping two together to give a bit more rigidity to the wing in windier weather.
