Peas but no pigeons

Recommended Posts

Same picture in my area, pea drilling now very clinical, only occasional spillage on headlands or gearings or in gateways, and soon cleared up.Little interest shown in emergent peas to date and the glaring sunshine of the last week doesn't somehow seem to have helped ( to bring the pigeon in,that is).

The sunshine will have no bearing on whether pigeons want to feed.

I've posted on a few threads so far that the pigeons will not touch the peas in any great numbers until many of the other remaining food sources are unavailable. The tree buds and rape are still the biggest draw where i live. I've only seen about 20 pigeons on the peas that i can shoot - not worth setting up for.

I got 80 acres of peas, I set up for less then 20 last week, ended the day with 133, id say defo worth setting up, don't you??

Well, every situation is different. If i check at 10 in the morning and there's 20 pigeons on a field, i would think there is a possibility that it would be worthwhile shooting. If i checked at say,4pm, and only saw 20 and no new arrivals, it would not be worth shooting.

Every area is a bit different, but i've found June to be consistently the best month for shooting pigeons on peas. All of my best bags on peas have come in June. Back in 2010 i shot 205 on a Friday and 132 on the Saturday. The plants were around 3" tall.

My best bag on peas last year was mid-June. 154 shot.

You certainly had a good day. Did you do a write up on here?

Thank god you guys are finding the same.

I was worried when a mate and member of here said there was 4 fields of peas on his permission and he very kindly offered to share it !!

We went and there was almost nothing to shoot , to date much the same . I found a pea field today so thought I'd sit and watch ( not my permission and never will be )

Not a soding bird on there. !!

Iv not had any shooting in weeks now I'm getting withdrawal !!!!

So next month we should see an improvement ?

I was starting to think it might be that we need the first clutch birds on the wing before we see any action now .

There is so few birds on my permission I started to think iv shot them all ! ( joke )

Just a month ago I took 180 pigeons off barely drillings over 4 sessions ( I know that's not god status but I was impressed )
