Frank
My lamping partner, rang, to tell me, the best way he could, after him downing several pints of the black stuff, that he could not make it. He apparently, forgot to tell me it was his works early Xmas party Anyhow, no matter i thought, got me gear together and went over to my farther in laws feild, to test the Light Force scope mounted lamp and check zero, all spot on. I was in a different spot tonight, on a peacock keepers place and some of his other birds were golden pheasents, lovely birds i thought, 1 or 2 went missing to foxes, so i was called in. Set up and called, using the back of me hand, no bait tonight, did not get time to get it together. Lamp on and their a fox stood, about 80 odd yds away, he ran back and hid a wee bit in some thistles, but not hidden enough , down he went. Got him and sat back down, waited for things to settle and then started calling again, lamp back on and fox number 2, just short of 100 yds, sat watching, sniffing the ground around him, down he went. Iwas getting cold at this stage, so went back to the Peacock mans house and had a hot bowl of soup and chat. he said their is more foxes on the otherside of his land and offerd to drive me down in hisToyota hilux, nice aswell. We drove about, then i picked out eyes, bins out and yes, a fox Safe background, ranged it, 187 yds, down she went, fox number 3. Started to drive back, when my freind, spoted another, he was in some tall grass and i could just see top part of his chest and full head, the fox went down at the shot, lovely. Went into pick it up and could not find it and nearly got lost in the tall grass , so will search in the morning, when i can see better. Pic below of my nights pest control and the peacock man, is happy for now. We spoted 12 foxes altogether , could not shoot all, for safety reasons. Their is a good few about alright this season. Hows the fox population over their in the UK this season fellas? Thanks, Frank.

Marc M
Very informative post as always Frank, you really are inspiring me in to wanting to do a spot of fox control myself. Haven't got the land, or the FAC at the minute though so it's sort of a catch 22 situation, can't get one without the other. Ho hum. Keep whetting my appetite for it though, please buddy
Frank
well done Frank, if the rain doesn't stop Im going to need thigh boots Yes, must get myself some waders soon Thanks. Marc M, thanks. This time next year, you will have a .223 and some land to shoot some foxes on, just keep watching this forum. When Hunter came on here, all he had was some air rifles, now he has a .22 rimmy, .222 Cf and a shot gun. Others aswell, have gone mad and got .223s, its a great forum this. On a another note, i found my fox just a while ago , well juffed, i must of walked right over her last night . So, thats 4 shots and 4 results, 3 vixens and a dog, CHAMPION, pic of her below, with the others, she is at the bottom of the pic. Frank. Big Dog
Good stuff M8. Sent some frost a bit north, we will soon be going canoeing if we want to shoot I was all set last night to go shooting, lamp ready in the bag, wife not working. Just as I was getting ready, my wife informs me she is on a training night I just can't get a night free wen it is reasonable weather and I'm not to tired
Frank
Just go out BD and if you have a good night, its well worth the nagging when you get back. Dont know what you could do if you have a bad night , still, its worth it both ways. Thanks all. Frank.
miffy
Can't see the pics Frank but well done Still a few foxes over here but nothing like the numbers you have in Ireland. Everyone and his dog shoots foxes over here which makes things a little bit harder for us
bigmick
Well done Frank!! There must b a fair lot of foxes round your area is there???
Frank
Thanks miffy. Pity you cant see the pics, musnt be sorted yet, what ever is still rong. Theirs a few over here that go lamping and can make some lamp shy, which does not help, youngsters going out with under powered rifles and air rifles , shooting at them and not threw them with a proper CF for the job. Bigmick, the foxes seem to be in good numbers in most places around the country this season. Frank.
hawkeye
Well done Frank another good night im thinking of moving over to your neck of the woods not as many foxes over this part.....
Frank
You should Hawkeye. More layed back here at times, although, when i first came here, it was all ***** and carts. Things seem to be changing, more cars and more fellas shooting. 12 years ago, i would of got 100 odd by now, if i started in september. Foxes were tame nearly back then, but , apparently, when their was money in the skins, back in the 70's/80's, they were scarce as hens teeth, as every tom **** and harry in the country was after them. As i have said, the fox is an amazing animal. Frank.

Frank
Thanks Kirky. The peacock keeper, did not feel sorry for them at all. He also lost a lovely Golden pheasent. I think their lovely to look at, pics below. Got them off a golden pheasent site.
Poacher
doesn't anyone else in Ireland shoot foxes ? you always seem to see so many keep up the good work
Frank
Thanks poacher. Other folks sure do shoot them. I know a fella who has a .220 swift, with a T8 on, he shoots a hell of a lot and does roughly the same area as me . Very wild over here, foxes can go for miles and not get disturbed. Bit like Scotland i would imagine.? Frank.
