acsimmo
Finally got round to buying a magnet and just realised I don't have a charger, then I remembered I had something in shed, the one I have got says the following on back- Output - 12v 2.7ADC (4A rms) Minimum capacity 20Ah The battery is a lead acid 12V 7Ah. I don't think I can use it but thought I would ask before a trip to Argos. Thanks in advance as usual gents. Al
fenboy
I am pretty sure that will fry it , for a 7amp/hr battery a 500-800 m/amp charger will be plenty .
acsimmo
Thought so but just wanted confirmation. Thanks mate Al
steve_b_wales
Get yourself a trickle charger and leave it on continuously. Better for the battery.
superspark
Trying to charge it with anything more than a trickle charger will indeed "fry it" and probable cause a fire. Your best bet would be to look for a trickle charger suited to your battery, one that when charged will show you by changing the led colour etc. look on ebay as this is where I bought mine. The majority of chargers for motor bike batteries will be what you want and in most cases an over night charge will be needed then top up once a month if not used. Remember a batteries life will be greatly extended if kept in a fully charged state.

I charge my 12 v 7ah at 0.7amps. It is possible to increase the charge rate but this will reduce the batterys life. Also recharge asap after use and don't drain it to death I personally use a Lipro Pro plus for charging, loads of features and will balance charge lithium bats aswell. All my batteries are kept on trickle charge, exept if I am away from home on holidays etc. They are kept in my shed, and I sometimes connect the chargers to timers, so that they get a trickle charge of about 2 hours everyday. lksopener
Quick question chaps, will the trickle charger charge a battery from flat? I've been charging mine on a car charger and I think I may have killed a brand new battery (instantly saying its charged) then flat straight away! I do have a Deben small charger that came with a air rifle tracer lamp that can do 6/12 volts and I believe that may be a trickle charger. Would that be better? Many thanks, Liam
TIGHTCHOKE
Car chargers are much too harsh for the little batteries we use for our rotaries! A charger that works slowly and then tops up is the way forward.
