after a little help here please folks, have had 2.5swb pajero and loved it till another little un came along so got a delica, not bad but a little soft on the road and car sickness appeared, got rid and got an old 2.8 pajero lwb and loved it, enough seats and good offroad, till someone ran into me and my insurance jumped from £250 to over a grand , ended up getting a ford galaxy short term and now insurance has come down im in the market for a 4 x 4 .

needs to seat 2 adults and 4 kids with plenty of legroom as will be main car

upto 5 grand

pretty easy to work on as do most stuff myself to save cash

so far have ruled out terrano, all landrovers, kia's, mercs and most of them are outlawed by the missus

im thinking a shogun 3.2 did lwb around the 02-04 plate, auto in diesal due to manual problems, dmf etc ect and im struggling to find something compareable, so any ideas? like i said a daily driver, mpg about the 30 mark will be ok, used for shooting, light greenlaning etc etc and town/holidays/schoolruns can anyone throw something else at me to look at?

any advice appreciated here and hoping someone can give me some more ideas :) cheers for now steve

A mini -bus and 2 blue bricks :whistling:

Seriously though , consider:

Isuzu trooper ,, engines are bullet proof if looked after,

Mittsi shogun ,

Toyota land cruiser / colorado,

Ssangyong - mercedes engined ,,,

Plenty about in that price range , your going to find a lot of high milers about, expect most will return around the 30 mark if not thrashed and driven miss- daisy- like.

As with all, check for tin worm and engine oil leaks - MOT`s are hotting up now on oil leaks and failable if leaky.

cheers for that, completely forgot about the trooper, if it was down to me i would buy a 2 grand 2.8lwb pajero again and have 3 grand in my back pocket for future repairs, but the rule is,if i get rid of galaxy it has to be newer ... dont ask me why as i could do pretty much everything to the pajero and hate getting new cars i dont know about or havnt worked on them.. thanks again :)

the bonus with the newer shogun is in theory the newer engines are more economical but they are still a reasonable price though the auto box tends to hit things a little. The obvious things to check are road tax but if you need a bus that size then the shogun is one of the better bets, of course the shogun sport might also be an option but that is the older 4d56 engine so slightly less economical

im trying to convince myself theres is others out there that fit the bill for what i need, there has to be more than a lwb shogun, but even in auto it shouldnt be no worse than what i already have, cant get no more than 28mpg on long run and short runs isnt even worth talking about its that bad.

was looking at xtrail but they dont do a 6+ seater and thats what making me point towards shogun, was kinda hoping there was a few more out there that i forgot about just cant see them... cheers for the input mate... all the best steve

By what you have mentioned already i think a Shogun is your best bet, you wont get many Troopers on a 03 or newer plate that have been well looked after with lowish miles and the 3.0 engine is not bullet proof, far from it even with the recall work done. I think you are down to a choice of Shogun or Landcruiser, I cant think of anything else unless you want buy older ?

Disco td5 ??? I've got one and I love it but as a lot will tell you on here not the most reliable ! Got 7 seats though ! I was searching for ages for a 4x4 and it come down to about three different types think it was x trail terrano or disco and after a while looking on auto trader I decided on the disco. Had to look around for the right one ie colour spec 7 seats etc its your call take your time keep looking and make sure if you can its got fsh good luck mate 👍

cheers for all the replys, looks like theres only one way to go and thats a shoggie, looked at volvos and cant find one under 160,000 miles.... landcruisers are the same or silly money whereas shoguns seem alot more around, half the mileage for the same price  damn i hate buying new cars, so much easier buying a new gun if you dont like you can just sell and get another

 ok the missus has now said im allowed a terrano, could get a 50,000 04 plates or a shogun 02 plate with slightly higher mileage....now im not against terrano as agriculteral in drving, a little like my old pajero lolol...... pretty decent off road with right tyres.... maybe easier to work on than shogun with fancy electronics etc etc ... will have too see which has most legroom in very rear seats .. pros and cons on both please... and if you have a terrano or shogun what age group would very rear seats be ok for please... thanks for all your help, much appreciated :)

I got offered a Toyota land cruiser 52 plate about three weeks ago from my brother in law (farmer) his dog was sleeping in it one day when I asked what he was doing with it.

He said I am taking it in for a trade-in on another Toyota, I'll be happy if I got £500.00 for it....I was more than tempted to snap his hand off.

He got £6,000.00 trade in for it last week on another land cruiser.....the wife said "I'm not getting rid of my Smart Car to drive that shed"....only thing that stopped me...bless her
