barney 66
Had a D max today for a test drive, been thinking about one for a while all the write ups seem good can't find any problems best economy for that type of vehicle my only problem is physical size. When I hook up to my quad bike trailer its to long so the pick up is part in the road so I cannot make the left turn to get out of my drive without mounting the kerb the other side of the road, to try and explain this its because I live in a cul de sac on an ex council estate with a narrow road at the top of a hill, if I turn right there is always some t**t parked in the turn round at the bottom of the hill otherwise I could go down reverse the trailer and on me way. Anybody got any sensible suggestions of another type of vehicle that would do the job slightly shorter, I can manage ok with my old 300tdi defender 90 but don't fancy a newer defender + the d max has 5 year warranty or do I struggle on with a d max don't want to make it to awkward otherwise the quad wont get used and it is seeming to be quite useful even more so when the crops are cut, Look forward to hearing your thoughts on this and thanks for reading the long winded post
oscarsdad
Ramps to get the quad into the pickup? I have been toying with the idea of a D-Max or a Hi-Lux, not driven the D-Max yet though.
barney 66
I don't think it will fit on plus I wanted the canopy on the back so there's no chance with that, take one out for a drive, I must admit I didn't go to far because after I found out about the trouble with the trailer I was so disappointed as I have been thinking about these for a while, but for the 30 miles I did from the dealer and back, I would be happy with one
Tim Kelly
Just pull the trailer out onto the road and hitch it up once you're out.
barney 66
Just pull the trailer out onto the road and hitch it up once you're out. Thanks for the thought, but I live on a hill and its an unbraked trailer, plus not long had a hernia done so all in all not a very good combination, the days of me rawling and struggling have gone now,Thanks for trying to help though
besty57
hi mate cant help with the trailer problem, but ive got the new dmax Yukon, and its a good drive and milage ok,28mpg round the doors,34ish on a run . only problem so far is the fuel filter had to be changed at 400 mile.when I asked the dealer he said its a known fault but doesn't fail till about 4000 mile normally, and if it goes again they fit a heater element to it .apperently Isuzu blame the diesel in the uk.so I would ask about this if I were you
Tim Kelly
Put a hitch on the quad and tow the trailer into the road, hook up to the truck and bung the quad on the trailer. Another way might be toputa front tow hitch on the truck, you could reverse out of your drive with a better lock, then hook the trailer up to the rear hitch once you're out. simjakcal
could you widen the entrance of your drive ?

The idea is ok but in reality I know that I wont bother taking it if I have to mess about like that, I leave it loaded on the trailer so it fits in my garage to unload it I would have to unhook the trailer on anyway
Ryan gun
smaller quad trailer ?
barney 66
smaller quad trailer ? There is only 1" clearence at the rear when the tailgate is up and if I shorten the drawbar anymore it would hit the back of the motor when you turn, the quad only just fits now
HDAV
I doubt any crewcab will be enough shorter to make a real difference a shorter one with better turning circle may work Amorak? but all will be much longer than 90! Why not just get a car as you have the quad? or bin the quad and use the 90 for shooting? The Dmax has 12.2m turning circle same as the Hilux the Amorak is 12.95! The Dmax is the shortest of the 3 The Ranger is also longer...........with larger turning circle Any others out there that arent clones? barney 66
I think you have about summed it up HDAV I didnt want to bin the quad as I can use it places I cant the 90 plus it meant I could have just one vehicle, going to have to make a decision between the two I think, thanks for your replies
guss109
How about using a battery caravan mover then then won't have to push it about by your self?
barney 66
How about using a battery caravan mover then then won't have to push it about by your self? Now that is a good idea, my mate jokingly suggested that a couple of weeks ago when we were talking about something different and I laughed him off, its now looking like a good idea, might have to look into prices etc. battery wont need to a permanent fixture as it wont be used all the time
guss109
Have a spy on eBay or with it coming into caravan weather see if there is any shows on or shops with a sale. al4x
What's the big issue about either driving up the kerb or jack knifing the trailer with a small reverse. Personally I think you would get used to it I've an L200 so a similar length and I use it to get the outlaws caravan out of their field and also use a discovery for the same, I actually find mine gets out better without going up the bank the other side of the road whereas the disco is always an issue

Caravan mover is the way forward I think saves on my hernia as well, well done guss109
