Cranfield
My Wife took her Mother Christmas shopping on Wednesday and due to the M20 mess (MIL lives 90 mile round trip away), stayed overnight and went again yesterday. Last night she was going through the things she couldn't find in the shops, or the price was wrong, or she forgot , etc. I spent 20 minutes on the PC with Play.com , Amazon and M&S. Ordered at best prices, 4 CD's, 3 books, 1 shower radio, 2 DVD's, I pair sequined ballet pump slippers (not for me ) and a jumper. All guaranteed to be delivered before Christmas. Way to go. Dunkield
I did an entire Christmas shop (not much for me I must admit) from the PC a couple of years ago. As both mrs stuartp and I both work, and the people I bought from refused to deliver to me at work (which wouldn't be that easy anyway as 2,500 people work in my office) we then spent the next couple of weekends going to courier pick up depots to collect goods they had tried to deliver when no-one was in. One of those depot's was further away from my house than the shop I bought the gift from That night I lay in bed wondering if there was money to be made out of running a courier company that delivers from say 5:30pm 'til 11:00pm? pin
Without derailing the thread too much, I have to agree cranners, it really is a good way to get these things done. Sadly it is shaping the market into something which we as consumers probably don't want. As everyone is on-line and selling the same stuff, the decision comes down to price. In order to keep the prices the lowest they can the retailer will always seek to save money operationally. Lowest wages for staff, lowest staff numbers meaning low morale, poor working conditions and so on. There are benefits, but there is a downside as well That night I lay in bed wondering if there was money to be made out of running a courier company that delivers from say 5:30pm 'til 11:00pm? I looked into that very seriously about 3 years ago
Cranfield
Come on cranners we all know the ballet pumps are for you! Nope, these are "party slippers" for my Daughter. They don't come in size 11 , which is a pity because there was a nice pair of zebra striped ones, with sequins and..............
Dunkield
With the mail order/ebay culture one of the big winners must be the makers of bubblewrap and jiffy bags etc. If we bin bubblewrap at work, within seconds someone is in there digging out to wrap up there mobile/whatever that they have just flogged on ebay. Private addresses are a pain to us as much as they are to the customer. Most companies now let you send to work addresses as long as they are on the royal mail database and your card details match your home one. My missus does loads of shopping while she's at work and it all gets delivered to me at work

I looked into that very seriously about 3 years ago coincidentaly , i was watching news on the tv this morning and royal mail/ parcel force or whoever were talking about starting a twilight delivery shift , more and more people buy on line but aren't always at home to take delivery of goods and have to pick them up from sorting offices and the cost of running these offices was getting out of hand.
