88b
I went through all that no dairy product no wheat etc. you would not believe what wheat is in. End result was it actually made my symptoms worse, one morning I decided I'd had enough of " medical experts" telling me what was helping me and what was bad for me. I'd already lost 4 stone and the hospital dietician told me I needed to lose another stone to get down to 12 stone at 6'4" . Then she told my wife a fried breakfast would be good for me as it helps stool balking . The next day a friend who is a physiotherapist suggest I try something like reflexology, I couldn't see how someone pressing on your feet can do anything but hurt or massage your feet but tried it. The first few times I thought improvements were a coincidence but when it happens every time you realise it must do something and it's not filling your body with drugs. Something else that leads me to believe stress is a major cause.
WelshAndy
Horrible to hear that :( my biggest fear. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 12 and I was pretty ill with it for a year until they figured out what it was! When I was 16 I was diagnosed with Primary sclerosing cholangitis which they said was caused by the colitis moving up into my bile ducts - very nearly had a liver transplant but luckily medication helped me. I had nearly 14 years without any symptoms until last September when I relapsed :( just finished my second lot of steroids and fingers crossed this time it's settled. Colitis and crohns are horrible illnesses which need to be talked about more. Wish him luck from me. Andy

darren m
anyone -- just wondering if it is standard procedure to get a follow up appointment if they find polyps as i understand that they can become cancerous. but like i said , i,ve never heard a thing from them . i keep an eye of colour of my stools , sometimes normal , some times light , sometimes dark and a funny smell like iron filings ( sorry ) , but it was,nt till about a year and half ago that i passed blood ( but only a few times ). i dont know if it was just me but they made me feel like i was worrying about nothing and wasteing there time think i need to find a different doc

Being stressed about this will not help with the diverticulitis in any event. On a lighter note well done for speaking about your poo - us girls find it much easier than you boys to share these things at least that is what I am lead to believe
pimpkiller
its dark blood you should watch out for bright red is probably a bum cut. Ill tell you what everyone should think about they bang on about foods but they never mention the water you drink. Where im from the water is very hard and full of chemicals, since ive moved away to an area with lovely tasty soft water ive not had anywhere near as much of a problem, less pain dio and wind
gazzthompson
I have ulcerative colitis, other than ****ting myself every few months it's no trouble (yet). The need to go to the toilet is a inconvenience but it doesn't run my life.
bear-uk
As said before, its affects on sufferers can vary enormously. Try all the advice in books and if it works then good. As for me the only thing that stuffs me up are onion barge's and John Smiths I decide how much Prednisolone to take if any flare ups occur. Presently 3mg which is very little compared to some. Had the 7 stone T shirt and swollen lips/mouth in the early years but looking good at the mo.
Vince Green
Almost everybody has IBS to some degree and most older people have divertic. even if they don't realise. Its not a case of whether you have got it or not got it, its a question of the extent. More awareness would be good but as a lot of it is seen as "bottom problems" its a taboo Also all the different names from Irritable bowel right through to Crohns causes confusion.
