Libertyandlivelihood
HI, I am new to Air Arms and the S410 and need some advice, what is the textured coating on the image and what can be done to tidy it up please? Sorry about the size. was trying to show what i am talking about.

Libertyandlivelihood
Rust It is only on the barrel and air chamber back as far as near the trigger guard so plenty of metal without it, does not look like its rust, looks too neat other than the end on the image. chrisjpainter
I've got to say, I agree with mickanles. The bluing looks ruined, which has allowed the air and any rain to get to work on the metal. How old is the gun and how well looked after has it been? To treat it, just use the same process as you would rust removal on anything else, but very gently! Then redo the bluing. Air Arms guns have never had the best bluing. You can get kits to do this. The one below is pretty good... http://www.ronniesunshines.com/shooting-equipment-1/gun-maintenance/birchwood-casey-complete-perma-blue-liquid-gun-blue-kit.html

I have looked closer and it seems to flake of if you agitate it with a finger nail, does not seem to stick as hard as rust.
chrisjpainter
hmmm. that could be just the bluing reacting then. get it all off, down to just the metalwork. and then redo the bluing. Will breathe new life into the looks of it!
FalconFN
Is there a possibility that someone sprayed it with textured paint? If it scrapes off with a fingernail what is underneath it? I still think it's rust though.
NIGHT SEARCHER
It`s RUST and I would check the air tube for any deep rust pitts. Take the gun out of the stock to check the under side of the air tube. If there are any bad pitts fit a new air tube they are not that expensive. And they are holding 200 Bar 3000 psi = bomb. On the plus side you would only have the barrel to rub down and re-blue. I have tried a few blueing kits and the best one by far was called cold blueing kit from USA of ebay. It was easy to use and give an even deep blue finish. It was about £10 plus £8 p&p. Edited June 28, 2013 by NIGHT SEARCHER
rabbiter
looks a bit like what mine did when I got it,................DAZ
bruno22rf
I'm with NIGHT SEARCHER-get it checked out cos what you have there is a slowly corroding bomb. I'm guessing that you bought it privately? If the cylinder is deemed ok you might consider having the metalwork dipped in cammo-I've seen this model done this way and it looks good. Libertyandlivelihood
bruno22rf, yes it was bought privately - took a punt on it without seeing it other than pictures, was assured it shoots fine and had no rust so will see what the seller comes back to say. DBD81
That looks very similar to my AA S410. No matter how many times I've tried to gently rub it off it comes back.
NIGHT SEARCHER
www.gunspares.co.uk Air Arms S410 Air tube £32 short-carbine £36 long full size gun. If the gun is at the right money it`s worth doing up has a project if it shoots right. Have a look on www.gunstar.co.uk to see what it`s worth or whats for sale. If you do start doing it up you need to rub it down till the rust is gone. Then treat the bare metal with JENOLITE rust killer and let it dry. Then wash it off and give it a very good de-greasing before you re-blue the gun. It`s all good fun and very satisfying if it looks good when it`s finished. Libertyandlivelihood
Hi Night Searcher, thanks for the link to gun spares. Rifle was £300 but advertised as rust free, I Guess that's the gamble I took not seeing it f2f but speaking to the guy he seemed trust worthy. NIGHT SEARCHER
Sorry that some **** has had you over bud. To advertise that gun has rust free he needs to go to specsavers with his white stick. I would see if you can get some money back of him. If the stock is in good nick I would value the gun at £150 to £250. It will sort and could be a very nice gun for less than a £100 spent on it. It is just so annoying to be lied to and to be had over.

Cheers mate, I have asked the seller who has told me that it is a rust protection and to ask any gun shop about it, but has told me to let him know if i am not happy after. NIGHT SEARCHER
Have a look at the S410 post by Rabbiter at few down from your post. He paid £175 for a tatty and lightly rusted S410. A few photos of the stock and the rust before and after some time spent on it.
jackinbox99
s410`s are mega easy to work on, so you should be able to clean that up easily enough. Good luck with it.
