First post so thanks for reading.

So im thinking of buying a new hatsan escort auto! (yes another one) as an auto suits the type of shooting im hopiing of doing.

But my Question is with the money im going to spend on a new escort could I buy something better?

I'm trying to take into account the warrenty you get with a new gun and the price to fix it should it go wrong..

I'm sure its an impossible question to answer but thought i would pick your minds!

Thanks for the replies (i hope)...

Firstly, you'll be looking at a semi-auto, not an auto I assume. What type of shooting will you be doing? Rough/pigeon then the Escort will be fine. I've got one myself and it's been faultless. It's durable but cheap enough that if it gets dinked or scratched or whatever in the field I really don't care. I've used it for clays too with reasonable success. Proabably 1000+ rounds through it with only one issue (which was totally user error) so from my experience it's been reliable.

I struggled when picking a shotgun as I wanted a semi auto, and over and under and couldn't decide what would be best, so I was shooting clays a fair bit so bought a bettinsoli OU with the impression it would be ok for everything, a few months later I bought a Aya no2 and now that's my pigeon gun hahaha I'm sure abit down the line you will purchase the other gun u want, I can't stop buying he the bloody things since I got my licence :) buy the hatsan and see how it goes. then purchase somthing else down the line.

if there's one thing iv learned from gun people its that they ALL have different opinions and the only opinion that matters mate is yours.

Im new to shooting myself and allso thought of a hatsan as a cheap semi auto but think again, they have there place but not in my cabinet , I recomend a second hand beretta 391 urika £400 - £700 for a half decent one beretta a303 ( wich i have ) or any of the 300 series £200- £400 and 10x better than a hatsan , browning b80 , mossberge 9200 the list goes on

I use my beretta a303 12g on sheeet dtl compact pigeons rabits cant recomend it enough all for the same price or less than a hatsan

but thats just my opinion

The important thing is a gun that fits well. The hatsan guns are very reliable and the latest models are super. The come with everything you need to adjust the stock length and drop. A set of chokes and a solid warranty backed by great customer service for a good price. I have 3 of them now inc. A pump action and never had an issue. Before long the hatsan "rubbishers" will be on here spouting doom but if you wanna pay £500 extra for a chap to stamp beretta on the action or a used brand name gun with no warranty its your money. Just get one that YOU like and fits well. After a bit of experience you will be the best judge of what works for you.

you can get a lot better for your money,if you buy a new hatsan you are getting the quality of a £400 gun if you buy a second hand beretta or browning you will be getting the quality and reliability of a gun costing many times that, and I am afraid you get what you pay for as with most things in life, also you might want to think about resale value as there may come a time when you wish to trade up and you will find the cheap guns drop like stones where as a good second hand model is not going to lose anything really, but as with everything its your choice, best of luck whatever you choose

I have a Hatsan and two Franchi Hunters all good guns if looked after and cleaned after use.

Given your budget I would buy a nice Beretta as you will want a better gun at some point and you may as well get it now.

We have all improved on what we have first purchased, you will find some good guns on here.

I know Fenboy on here is selling his Beretta 391 Urika and has even offered to let the buyer try first....great first buy

Forget the brand new Hatsan and go Beretta or similar secondhand...welcome to PW

Firstly welcome to pw! it were me buying an auto id go for a better quality second hand gun fabarm, beretta, browning, franchi, iv had escorts one of which was fine, the other 2 i had jammed and one jammed every other shot! Bought beretta and browning autos and there still virgins when.it comes to jamming! And i go through alot of cartridges! My favourite auto it the beretta A303! Pick one up for around 300-450 abd there a 1000x the gun a hatsan is! Not nocking the brand but this what iv experienced first hand! "The bitter taste of low quality stays with you long after the sweet taste of a bargain has gone!"

Whatever you buy mate buy it wisely and enjoy!
