magman
I feel that not enough respect is being shown to new members and their questions, more and more questions are started with "hope this doesnt offend" or "sorry if this has been asked before" On a forum such as this we are going to get repeat questions, one doesnt feel as if they belong if all they do is use the search facility so as new members join and ask questions that may have been asked before lets please give them the respect they deserve, If the person doesnt know the answer then it is not stupid for them to ask. Also as has been pointed out it is frustrating to see that a new reply has been added to a topic for you to open it up to see a smiley face but at the end of the day it isnt life threatening. We have all made mistakes with buying or training of dogs and i am sure with many other things in the shooting field that is how we learn, so ridicule is not an answer either. The bottom line is we are not here to judge, no one is forced to reply so if you have nothing constructive to say then maybe its better to refrain if everone searched then one day there may be no new posts regard,s rob

Guest jonrms
Can I add to this as well. please. I agree with the above post, and sometimes we all feel we are answering the same questions over and over.. BUT!!!! things are changing as well. Jonno didnt realise about the variation before.. and has been charged several times.... So even though a question has been asked before... we ALL can learn something out of new responces. I Vow to be nice to people...

I think you've hit on a good point here, as you say, everybody has to learn, and it does no harm to air some of the evergreen topics again, for the sake of the newcomers and less experienced. I don't think we ever stop learning, and so in the light of that, should show more respect and be flexible in some of the answers we give, or as is the case, we don't give.... Mungler
I think you will find that the posting was from another site and was specific to *that* site. If you browse the message boards on the dark side the common factor was for someone (be it anyone - young, old, mastermind or moron) to ask a question or make a suggestion and then be met with a hail of abuse - some funny, some not so funny. This site does not have that vibe at all. The dark side is now under new management from the new and improved Bertie and it is becoming a more pleasant and welcoming place - there's still no one on it, but there you go.... maybe they have all been scared off. Hunter
Im nor goint to sign up to the dark side Think its a shame that its a rip of this site, the difference being that you can openly swear on it without being moderated. Magman, good post. Im usually aslways happy to answer a qeustion as best I can even if its a repeat.. If I had a long day and really dont feel like it, il just ignore it, not tell them to 'use the search'. I know I was a forum Noob, and I try to treat all new people like I was
Devon Fox
A bit of competition doesnt do anyone any harm, hopefully both site's will strive to be the best and improve things for all of us. I am involved in a few driver taining forums as a mod and admin, it takes an age to establish a new forum, and for it to start ranking, one has been running for several years and is very popular, the other is 7 months old and taking off slowly!, so dont be too quick to put the boot in. Everyone has the right to log on or off if they like/dont like the site. Agree with all thats been said about attitudes to new posters, they are all needed to keep things fresh! Just my opinions

Cranfield
This site is not as bad as many, notably the airgun Forums. Often the problem occurs after an "Anti visit", when all new posters are treated suspiciously for a while. As we have said frequently in the past, leave the controlling to the Moderators and assume everyone is innocent, until the Mods find them guilty. We will keep the site clear of unpleasant influences and that also includes Ms Whiplash from Latvia, who keeps trying to post pictutes of her younger sister. lurcherboy
You have a valid point there Magman. I find it annoying when a newbie comes aboard on any of the sites that I frequent and then proceeds on their first or second post to ask a question that has been posted umpteen times Maybe a bit more patience would be in order. pin
magman, as LB and others have said you have a valid point. However, recently, there have been some cases where a newbie asks a question covered a couple of threads down on the very forum the question is being asked, that is annoying. I think in general PW are very good in this respect, you want to see some ICT technical forums, those guys take no prisoners

SNAKEBITE
Before I start can I say that a) I am no expert and do not pretend to be. I do not know it all and am always willing to listen to new ideas. c) I make mistakes and am able to admit to them (sometimes ) With that out of the way I feel I can say that repetition of threads, smilie answers to threads and lengthy debates of something that is personnal choice and has no wrong or right answer (.177 vs .22) is what drags this site down and is what has kept me away a lot of the time. Yes everybody is a newbie at some stage but linking previous threads or doing a search can answer so many questions without dragging the same old tired rubbish up time and time again. Be nice explain the situation but always hint towards doing a search. Any new questions or answers that need explaining further are welcome and should be dealt with nicely. Just my opinion.
