Grand day out

Had the first driven day courtesy of the farmer who lets me and Lucky Jim shoot the vermin.

First drive was good but would have been better as the Greylags veered to the left of the line about 20 yds up still I had 2 Pheasant for 4 shots :)

Next drive had little in it and I never even had to lift the gun ;)

3rd drive was spectacular a gentle hill of Kale and neeps and the pheasant flushed from the top to the bottom in 2`s & 3`s  and I managed 7 from that drive  I didn`t count the cartridges there and I missed the first 4 birds

Last drive in the morning I was walking gun and shot a bird that managed to glide into the next drive,so I called the dog back,I hate to do that but we managed to get it later.

I also got a brace of rabbits too.Normally they`re a No-No but they were between me and a dry stane dyke so no problems there.

Only one drive in the afternoon and it`s a topper :( birds come off a fodder neep field and over a bank towards the wood behind us and some put the afterburners on although a few come down the bank at waist height :)

Ended the drive with 10 pheasant one of which was the highest of the day  ...............Chuffed,you better believe it !

128 Pheasant 2 Woodpigeon 3 Rabbit...........MAGIC.

The last drive and the bag.

Wow what you gonna do with all them!!

We'd be lucky to see 10 in a season!!

Never really understood driven shoots basically seemed like clay pigeon shooting with pheasants not that im criticising you or anything but whats the point in it although i can see how it would be great fun. Cheating would be how i describe it

The farmer asks the guns to take as much as they want with the remainder he gets a local processor to pluck dress etc.for his freezer.

My mate takes twice his needs for the OAP`s in the village,he gives them the birds oven ready. So they all get used up apart from 1 or 2 that might be smashed or as in todays case there was a tug o`war between 2 dogs and one pheasant got a bit torn

kirky,he compares driven shooting to clays and says he cant see the point or the difference, then asks whats the point.in another thread he likened the use of shotguns to mass murder.so therefore he is a **** with no understanding of country sports

ah i see i think couldnt work out how this came into this thread but hay ho ok
