sorry hunter it dont happen mate, they come team handed, if you have phoned or not. they stopped 3 off use one evening in rush hour traffic. 3 arv,s 4 cop cars and a ambulance on stand by. this if after they had watched us shoot from 10 am until 5.30 pm. when i complained to their boss i was told , sorry we use incidents like this for practice.

 few mates of mine went clay shooting in an old quarry ( with permission :) ) a few years back, someone complained and out came armed response, they watch the guys shooting clays ( from afar ) then as they were leaving swooped, same thing, face down on the floor, one of the lads had his daughter with him, she was made to lay face down too!, only 10 years old. One of them had his sgc in his pocket, and as he went to get it was told leave it or I'll fire :) , 20 Min's or so later all was cleared up and guess what no apologies, not even to the girl of ten and yes they see it as a training exercise! .

Now what do you do with your nice shiny ( well not quite ) rifle, with one up the chamber and XX hundreds of pounds worth of scope when an armed copper tells you to drop it?

I've often wondered how they would go for armed trespass?

:( ;)

we have a licence but they make us look like criminals

they do mate, twice they have stopped me on busy main roads.

full road blocks, every one watching from there cars. when they could have done it in a field miles away from anywhere. but where the fun in that for them.the ones that have come into the field turn out to be good guys, interested in what guns you have got and what you are shooting. but one thing i do in the field is when i see them coming, unload, and put the gun down.

Must only be me that agrees in the procedures that they use....

Just sent a letter to them saying that I dont agree with them lambasting the police in this way.

Deako will tell you that they way that they do it is for a reason.............let me see if I can recall the email..

"I was somewhat dismaid to read your 2 page spread about armed response officers turning up when called by joe public.

I have been stopped on a number of occasions by regular beat bobbies on my permission. These officers have been polite, respectful and professional when dealing with me, OK I didnt appreciate a pair of them more or less creeping up on me on one occasion, but I was probably harder to see whilst in my full ghillie gear.

I think giving the Armed Support Units the title of "SWAT STYLE HIT" squads does nothing to bolster our relationship with our local police forces. None of us want a shooting incident, but these guys are trained to do the job that they do. Yes they need to be forceful, yes they need to be commanding, they need to be in control.

As for your reporters buddy Chris saying that he was going to make the weapon safe and unload the magazine, then Im sorry but he is a fool. You do what the officers tell you, when they tell you and how they tell you.

Its done how its done for a reason, it stops them getting shot by some maniac with a gun.

These guys have got families too you know. Imagine the cheif constable turning up at home saying sorry Mrs X, Sgt X isnt home tonight because we relaxed the way that we do things.

We all know what guns do in the wrong hands. The cops have to do their jobs, help your local forcet. Be proactive, I place a sign in my car with a mobile number on advising that shooting is taking place, I have provided my local bobbies with my areas of permission.

Dont go lambasting the police for doing their jobs."

There we go.............

The first time I read it was in the December mag. It had a small write up about the next months article. Then the really funny bit came along. The guys mate (Andy) shoots at the skeet club I'm in. We had a good chat about how they have been shooting there for something like ten years, and the coppers still turned out in force! Ruined their shooting for the day that's for sure

The day I need to phone the police to undertake a legal sport is the day we have lost the freedom to live as we choose.

You are carrying and using a gun for frigs sake...................

I find it hard to understand why people can be so anti establishment about this, they are not infringing upon your rights. Its all about education.

Maybe if a few more of us tried to be a bit proactive then we might just help to educate the boys in blue...

The point about knives, there was an artical in this months SACS magazine. They say that even though you may think if you are OK about carrying a knife when your going out shooting, the way the law is worded you may still be vulnerable to arrest as the wording of the law doesn't take into account traveling to the place that you will be using it. If you have a knife in a public place when your traveling to go shooting they can still arrest you by law for carrying a weapon. I know of someone who very nearly got arrested for carrying a knife when he was going fishing, he had all the other kit with him and he was very lucky not to get done.

so what size knife can you have with you and be with in the law when out shooting.

You may have any size knife with you in a public place so long as it is not prohibited and you can show "good reason" for being there. Good reason may be returning home from buying it in a shop or simply going fishing, or like I do when I go skuba diving. Or if out lamping, you need a knife to gut the rabbits before you bring them home for the pot. Even if you had a bad night and no rabbits ;)

You need good reason for having the knife, not where you are.

see here.

section 42 (1) (a), states... section 139(6) ( b ) (maximum penalty for offence of having knife etc in public place);

If you are in a public place with a knife, then that is where you are ;);)

You can have a knife at home, no problem.

Hiya, I'm on the fence with this one. if someone reports a incedent involving a firearm, i'd like the police to act. We all might be going about our own business in a lawfull way, but what if the village idiot wasn't.

If the police found the weapon was legal and so were you, fine, that should be the end of a very little story. However there'd be upraw if the village idiot managed to hurt someone and the police received a report and never followed it up.

We've all been face down in the mud just for fun, i wouldn't mind helping the fuss for five minutes just to clear things up. But like mentioned, sportsmen on their own permission with legal weapons are being arrased and un-nessarery files are being logged, thats the problem that needs to be addressed.

regards kieran
