Beretta28g
Who is going out for red stags tomorrow? Are people going to leave em for a while or are they gonna start hitting them hard for cull figures?

Beretta28g
Could have been more, saw quite a few but i ****ed up the first shot sort of, so my priority was killing the injured one.

Beretta28g
Nope, aimed for the chest, and the bullet a Hornady Interlock broke into shards. Lungs were punctured as was the liver and diaphragm but not badly enough to drop the animal. So the next one went into the neck (needed to drop the ****** as he was nearing my boundary) and that didnt exit either. But it did kill the deer. CharlieT
There are 18 nice stags lying in one of my fields, they haven't moved all day. Wonderful sight. All still in velvet.

Strange that it did"t exit on neck shot have you had it happen before
Beretta28g
Nope, never shot em in the neck before. They nearly always exit on muntys/CWD/fox, but they didnt exit on the 2 stags i shot last year so i have upped the powder charge a bit. Still didnt work. have to use a different head i think. al4x
I was thinking that the interlocks aren't renowned for that problem sounds like the analysis of the last muntjac I had to go out and find for a mate shot with a 308, that had gone in and deflected doing much the same damage. I found it for him but left the gralloching to him
Beretta28g
Have interlocks got form for being a bit crappy/rubbish?
al4x
the 308 was on sierra soft points, as far as I know the interlocks are usually fine. You might have just got unlucky or its a velocity issue. Was it close?
Beretta28g
yeah about 30 yards. im using 47 gns or rl22 wich should give aroound 26/2700
al4x
That won't have helped, at range it may not happen again, but they should have exited a neck shot
Beretta28g
the neck shot was at 60-70 yards I now have very little faith in these bullets
al4x
I can understand that, I swear by sierra soft points though in lowly 6mm I'm yet to have one not exit a fallow and they really do knock roe over hard
Beretta28g
Good ive just loaded up 50 Gamekings
activeviii
dont speed them up, slow them down so they push though rather that trying to smash through. Im about to load with n140 for the fallow so will let you know the out come, i always run slow in the 6.5. i was using the 120 hotcore but i might as well use v-max as i had more holes than a pin cushion. First i will be playing with the 7x57 for the short woodland stuff.
Tommo
that will be the best ever deer caliber then......... Obviously not....,. That cal is debatable on big low-land Reds. T
