njc110381
Cheers for the heads up so far in advance. I'm always reading about stuff I would have liked to have watched when people post "on telly now" and I see it the next day! Chris Packham is ok, but his voice annoys me for some reason. Not his fault I know and he's fairly informative. I prefer Sir Dave myself when watching wildlife tv.

Penelope
Pole Star - Bill Oddieous is not a fan of moggies either. The only good thing about him, oh, that and the Goodies. Maybe he will pat me on the back then coz I have shot 2 feral's this summer so far as there have been nesting Curlews & Oyster catchers visible from the very spot where I sit at my pc now . A curious thing happened recently when I noticed a hare slowly moving towards a nesting Curlew to get a close look when all of a sudden the Curlew gave the hare a good peck on the nose ! & the hare bolted . Gimlet
Oh dear. Usual cutsie anthropomorphised tosh. Half-tame animals in spotless, oversized, artificial hobbit burrows complete with plastic tree roots and soft lighting. Ickle fwuffy bunny wabbits for the urban masses. Aaah. Unnatural, unscientific, uninteresting and unsurprisingly, BBC. Bring back David Attenborough

Pole Star
Should have been some good filming of ferrets chasing rabbits around the burrows ! I have always wondered what it would be like ? ps Should have done the same kind of thing brown rats & where did they get that great smoker ? that would be great for smoking out rats ! Gimlet
Ok then clever clogs how else are they going to get film of inside a set it has to be artificial but it is the only way to give us some idea about what goes on I for one will look at the program before deciding if it is good or bad. It didn't show what goes on. It showed edited snippets in a contrived environment with a commentary of vapid generalisms. There was nothing in the programme which wasn't better presented in books 50 years ago. There have been plenty of proper covert wildlife films made which are the real thing. This was never intended to be anything of the kind. It wasn't about animal behaviour, it was about human behaviour and the need for Friday night fluffy animal TV for the dumbed-down generation. Disappinted. I was looking forward to a serious wildlife programme. They couldn't even get the terminology right. Rabbits don't have kits, they have kittens. Ferrets have kits. I'm with Pole Star. What that rabbit "burrow" needed was my old hob polecat to amble into shot. He'd have livened things up.
