al4x
It seems pretty cheap for an oven ready grouse at a tenner, its what needs to happen sensible pricing to make good use of the increasing popularity of game.

I agree, reasonable price for the grouse...it's the pigeon and rabbit prices which I think may be comparably very expensive.
Penelope
In April I needed to get rid of a few pigeons, no game dealer local to me, but found a farm shop not too far from my friends farm that sell game, and on the way there and back too. Dropped off 48 on the Saturday morning, after shooting them on the Thursday and another 36 on the way home. The farm shop sell pigeon breasts at £8.50 for 500g. I agree, reasonable price for the grouse...it's the pigeon and rabbit prices which I think may be comparably very expensive.
al4x
Its the putting them in the oven ready state where the costs come in, the shooter wants paying, the game dealer and then the supermarket, and they will have to pay to dispose of the skin and guts etc. Lots of fingers in the pie to increase costs so I would guess it would be comparative as I doubt the estates get much more than the cost of a rabbit for a grouse. But even at a tenner its a decent meal and out of the ordinary for some
camokid
i think shops should stock more game then people would consume more and understand where not all cruel **** with guns we just have a posh palate
oscarsdad
i think shops should stock more game then people would consume more and understand where not all cruel **** with guns we just have a posh palate Agreed...and if it reduces the demand for cheap, low quality meats from very questionable welfare standards then all the better. Maybe we should open a shop in Coventry? No posh people there lol!

scotslad
Last season early on grouse were going for around the 15-18 quid a brace in aug for young birds and about tenner foe old, atleast i was told that by keeper as i was after a few brace, but by mid-end sept time were down to a £5 a brace for young or old (and he gave me a couple brace extra). Actually not that dear at £10 oven ready, my mates wife paid £6 for a rabbit, i still give them a slaggin for it.
bostonmick
its all good news if the main stream high street start selling game birds,i wonder how long it will be before they don't want any shot with lead,i know of several shoots that have closed due to supermarkets not wanting cabbage and cauli's that could have lead pellets in from pigeon shooting and game days.
