Two Late Starts

Saturday morning myself and Gaz headed out to look for some pigeons. We drove around looking for stubbles but found that most had been cultivated. We saw very few birds and not much flighting. The miles started to rack up and the day was getting on. We eventually came back to a barley stubble field that had a few pigeons feeding but mainly crows. We watched for 20 mins and decided where to set up. The pigeons where very difficult to decoy and most took no notice of the pattern but they provided us with some excellent long shots. Gaz called a few crows in which we added to the pattern and whilst the pigeons went quiet the odd crow kept us interested. Again we had some cracking shots on the carrions some at 65 yards plus. We shot from 13.30 - 17.00 and picked 41 woodies and 16 corvids with a few of each lost behind us.

Gaz also managed to shoot this white wood pigeon. It's only the second one I've seen, the other one is in my freezer which I shot a couple of years ago.

Today it was another late start after going to the game fair this morning and then watching the other half do some dressage test. I started out looking fairly local to home as time was getting on. I pulled up to the first farm and instantly noticed a very strong flight line to a farm I don't have permission on. I decided to just stand under the flight line with the gun and get a bit of practice in for the coming season. I soon shot a few birds so put them out on the edge of some standing rape which has had the edges topped due to it failing and the weeds coming through. A few birds came in but most were intent on getting to the other farm so they provided some good "driven" style shooting. I packed up with 78 for 3 hours shooting.

Cheers

Ben
