Daystate Huntman - Factory Repair

Hi Guys. Newbie on this forum, so please go easy! :)

I was wondering if you could help me out with a bit of advice?

I purchased a Daystate Hunstman Classic back in Feb of this year. And to cut a long story short, after being less than overwhelmed with the accuracy of the gun, and a little dubious of its power output. I noticed that it had started leaking air (I'd fill it up on Sunday, leave it untouched throughout the week and the next weekend, the pressure would be about half what I had filled it to).

Needless to say, the gun is now with Daystate being looked at.

Now obviously, when I get the gun back I want it to be absolutely spot on (or at least as good as it can possibly be). So, with that in mind. Is there anything else that I could/should be asking Daystate to do while they have the gun?

For example, I have seen on another thread on this forum, someone (Evo) mentioned that Daystate "Tuned" there huntsman for them.

http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/238658-buying-a-daystate-huntsman/?hl=daystate

Will this be done as part of the repair work, or would I need to specifically ask for this????? Would it be expensive?

Also, is anyone aware of what tests/checks are done when Daystate service a rifle? Would I expect to receive a report after it has been done, stating what has been checked/replaced?

Thanking you in advance for any help

I cannot see any reason why Daystate would need to "tune" your rifle as its so new. If the gun goes wrong(as it has)then their obligation is to rectify the fault and no more. However-if you were experiencing accuracy issues with the gun it would be wise to mention the fact-they can kill 2 birds with one stone. If I were Daystate, however, and one of my products had let you down I would at least offer you a free service when it becomes due-there has to be some advantages to buying a premium gun that then lets you down in this way.

hi bud, sorry to hear your news about your rifle,

when I said tuned , what I meant was they where tuning the rifles power to 11.8ftlb,

also I am very surprised by the lack of accuracy, my rifle with jsb exact 15.89gr performs very accurately as a few on here that have had the pleasure of shooting bunnies with it will tell you,

you have done the right thing by taking it back because when it is returned it will be spot on, though it should of been when you bought it,

the one problem I had with mine was I bought it new and it was chron,d shooting at 9.8ftlb this was low yes 2ftlb lower than I wanted it so I took it back to the factory and it was tuned to 11.8ftlb which was the maximum they will tune a sub 12ft lb,

I have not had a single problem with mine and was that impressed with daystates aftercare that I bought a daystate airwolf aswell, and will buy the Air ranger next month,(if the price is right)at the midland game fair.

whatever you do , don't panic once you get it back it will be perfect and as said try the jsb exact 15.89gr pellets with it my huntsman loves them

hope all goes well, Evo

Ring Daystates and ask them -

Normally if returned with Accuracy issues they will check it -

Re power a lot depends on what pellets they was set up with are what you are using -

Most Manufactures will set up gun's on repair / service with pellet of choice - If you supply some pellets -

Can not expect them to keep stocks of all pellets - these Day's -

I had a teething prob with my Ranger FAC but was done free and had test result and pellet grouping back with it. Also went back for a service also free bar the postage.

Great service off Daystate always ring first and get a slot for service or it might be in a queue, on the last service sent 1 day was back 2 days later . But if not booked in you got to wait your turn first in first out. :good: atb Terry

I had an issue with mine as the power was down on it. Sent back under warranty. Returned 10 days later with a hefty postage bill stating no fault found. I emailed Tony Belas about it and was promised he would reply as soon as he could. That was 6th June this year. Not a word and not impressed

TBH mate, you live and learn. I bought a new AA s410 a few years back and that was weeping air. Popped it back to the dealer, who returned it to Air Arms. Back inside of 5 days, no charge, boxed up as new, tin of pellets some targets. Good service. My airwolf, slung back in the box, no plastic bag covering it, so bits of polystyrene broken off where it was chucked about in transit made their way down the barrel,in the shroud, in the action, up inside the trigger, a printout for power which for some reason differs from three other chronos and bill for £33.84p! and no further discussion from Daystate about it.

As I said, live and learn.

Strange how different people get such different treatment from the same companies-Daystate could not have been more helpful when I spoke to them about buying a second hand MK3-chatted on the phone for 15 minutes about all things MK3-yet when I sent an email to AA suggesting a really cheap way of making their bolts "lock down" I never even received a reply.

Hi Chaps.

First of all, thanks very much for your replies. You have gone a long way to setting my mind at ease.

And thanks EVO for clarifying "Tuning" for me. :) I'm sure it won't be the last stupid question I ask on here!

Yes, the gun was bought from new. But it was a case of visiting the shop and by change they had exactly the gun that I wanted. I have no idea how long it had been sitting on display for, and when I picked it up it had no air in it. Something that I was always told was a no-no with PCPs. Maybe that should have rung alarm bells at the time.

The gun was sighted and tested with a variety of pellets (Daystate Li, JSB Exact, Air Arms Field 4.51 and Air Arms Field 4.52) and i hasn't happy with the consistency with any of them.

Anyway, the gun was passed back to the shop where I bought it, who sent it back to Daystate for the warranty claim. I've emailed Daystate a couple of times, but all I've received so far, was a one line reply from Rachel, saying "It was booked into us on the 16th August. Hopefully the work should be completed this week sometime". Which is obviously good, but it left a few questions unanswered.

From the sounds of some of your replies, it seems a much better bet to phone them, rather than email. Has anyone got a number for them, or is it best to use the number from their website?

I just want to make sure that all the information got through, as I don't want them to just investigate the air leak, and me have to go through the whole process again for another issue.

Anyway. Thanks again guys, for all of your help and advice!

HI, i had a daystate huntsman 22 cal my rifle was leaking , and under powerd, and not that accurate, daystate pickt it up and droped it of useing TNT. Within 10 days it was back rebarrolled ,and with jsb exact 15.9gr performs super accurately ,the tecnishion told me at about 160 bar , is the high spot and they set the power at 11.6 fpb with jsb exact 15.9gr, so you might chrono it a say 190 ,bar etc so it will look like the power is down, and the leake i was told was a new like domed seal they used for a short time, but they wear going to stop useing it as it was!not as good as the old one , i hope this helps. border. :good:
