mr smith
Wondering some of you guys can put me in the picture regards accessing the foreshore for wildfowling. Was out at one of my shoots down by the river Tay last night and was speaking to the owner, they said that several shooters had headed down from the road towards the river. This involved crossing a field of freshly sown winter cereal, crossing a railway line and then telling the farmer who was bailing in the field where to go when challenged. Now i know crossing the railway is a big no-no but not sure about their entitlement to access the foreshore this way.Now wildfowling down there was where i cut my teeth shooting wise but this was about thirty years ago. Now were they in the right except the railway?

edenman
It's silly season down there just now, another week and these "fowlers" will be bored and hopefully staying away. They could have explained to the farmer about the right to roam etc etc.

It was the same the start of last season, though i'm pretty sure they(not necessarily same guys as last night) they were trying to shoot in the fields as well. There is an authorised route nearer Kingoodie but it makes for along walk up to the reedbeds.
edenman
Human nature to take the shortest route though. No need to tell the farmer where to go even if he was defensive, doesn't look good on the rest of us fowlers. Like I said it will calm down soon enough. henry d
IIRC countryside access states that access should be via roads or field margins, not through growing crops.

nic
as I understand the scottish law, although there is the right to roam and no crime of trespass, there is criminal damage and if you walk through crops you may well be committing it
