Fuji Shooter
OK so finally the sunroof has started to leak on the Disco turning the inside to a swimming pool. As I have never opened the sunroof (front or back) I thought I would just seal them up. Is it a case of just using sealant around the glass seal or is there a better way of doing it. I can't be bothered with removing the headlining to fix it properly as its done 80,000.
goldypurple
the drains are blocked, clean them out and all will be good
Cosd
the drains are blocked, clean them out and all will be good Leaky sunroof on a DIsco is a feature Agreed with above, could be drains are blocked. If not removing the headlining and sealing is the way to do the job properly. If it's leaking because of build up around the glass it is probably the drains, else it might be getting in under the metal frame where it sits on the roof of the car. Just out of interest, where are you seeing water inside the car, it may not be the sunroof, disco's have many "features"...! glb8686
Just get some clear silicone on the job It sorted mine right out!
Fuji Shooter
Its dripping through behind the mirror, also notice a slight damp patch on passenger side headlining. Sunroof has never opened since I got the car many years ago.
PhilR
Another couple of roof features which can allow water ingress are the roof bars and the sat nav aerial hole if applicable. My indy garage removed both my sunroofs and sorted out the drain holes/pipes and re-bedded the frames on silicone sealant. They also told me to keep the rubber sealing ring between the glass and frame scrupulously clean as the slightest thing on it causing a slight gap, could allow water from the frame to breach the seal. ditchman
before you seal it up........the rack might need a bit of adjustment.........if it is an electric one then free the motor off...which is easy enough to do simples eh ! Trevorevans
Usually leak where the sunroof cartridge is bonded to the roof and not through the seal around the glass itself. You'll have to take the headlining out remove the cartridge and clean off the old sealant, then use something like 'tiger seal' to re seal them. Not a difficult job but will take a good few hours to remove/refit headlining. Ah the joys of Land Rover ownership. Love them to bits though lol. al4x
A friend has just had her 58 plate disco written off after leaving the sunroof open when it rained hard, so just be glad it's only leaking Seems on the later ones the electrics hate the water
Fuji Shooter
I might try sealing around the tray and roof first with clear sealant as you can't see it unless your up a ladder anyway. If it still leaks then I can move onto the glass/tray option. Cheers

There are loads of posts on there to help you identify the problem and how to resolve it.

Cheers Residue from the silicone will also get washed down onto the screen when it rains totally obscuring your vision when the wipers are turned on. Ask me how I know lol. Fuji Shooter
Did you use the cheap stuff from B&Q or the marine sealant from a Chandlers which is great for sealing windows on a boat. This stuff is also great for sealing hairline cracks on boat decks http://www.captaintolley.com/
