Stealth Stalker
I was picking up on my local shoot today, a first for me! it was interesting to see the goings on of the day from a different angle, normally I'm in the beating line. It was also an opportunity to see just how bad some of these so called game shooters are, on more than 2 occasions I witnessed 1 gun in particular swinging at low birds through the line & the same gun missing a bird no more than 4 ft from the end of his barrels It was also Beckys first time picking up on a formal day & she behaved & performed brilliantly 1 retreive stands out where this **** had winged yet another duck, she marked it so I sent her out only for the bird to lift as she was about a foot away she followed it for about 300 yds before it crashed into a fence post. While we were bracing the birds we noticed a cock bird that seemed to be growing another beak Has anyone else come across anything like this? We ended the day with 2 woodcock 1 jay 1 woody 32 duck 152 pheasant Incidently the dangerous **** also shot the white pheasant Stealth Stalker

pin
Glad she did well SS! She was good as gold yesterday and thoroughly deserved a good day picking up, I bet she's nackered but sat with a big smile on her face!
ciltalgarth
WELL DONE GOOD SHOOTING This beak deformity can also be formed when the pheasant is bit ted and the bit isn't removed when the bird is introduced to the wood as a poult. Cranfield
Most of the deformed beaks I have seen on raised birds, has been due to badly fitted bits, or bits that haven't been removed from escaped birds.
dazza
I've seen a few like that on birds I've shot
Stealth Stalker
When you say bits are they the rings they put through the top beak to stop pecking when they're poults? Pin She's collapsed under my feet now. Pic of her watching all the action I've just had a duck breast pitta very nice, food don't get much fresher. Stealth Stalker
Decroyffe I like to take the digital camera with me whenever I'm out & about in the countryside, shooting or otherwise you never know when something interesting will show up. As for the pics of the dog I couldn't resist it she looked so alert & was marking every bird that dropped, she was quivering with exitement. Like a fool when we started picking up I'd put the camera away & forgot to take any retrieving pics SS Dazza It didn't really need straightening thats the natural lie of the land, although I had been swigging away at my hip flask all morning, thanks anyway SS

You will have to let Me know when the next shoot over there is and i will go on the Golf Course and catch the ******. There only 5 people aloud to use firearms on the Course and i know its none of us. Sounds like that Guy i was talking about when we first made contact. Stealth Stalker
Ahh..... that would make sense Next shoots the 10th of Jan, from the sound of his shots he's at the bottom of the driving range in the woods backing on to the cricket club. Stake it out & nail the ******* shame you didn't keep that shot kestrel as evidence against him SS

I chucked it in the wood next to a big tree, should still be there. Anyone reading this that don't know what we are talking about, I found a Kestrel shot with a Shot Gun on Sunday on land that is only used for crops.
