scotslad
If it under a tree in the pen/roosting wood tawny would be the favourite. But since u found it out dogging in (guessing u don't dog the roosting/pen areas) it could be almost anything, althou fox is a strong earlier favourite. Mibee try plucking the poult out see if any other signs?

wannabe_keeper
Of course you can never be certain but im pretty confident it would be a tawny owl. Takes the head and nothing else. I've seen it once before when sitting up a high seat, which would be a good idea for you to do should you start discovering more casualties, so you can witness it yourself. scotslad
It all depends on the circumstances where poult was found, a few things could possibly do that to a poult. But a tawny will almost always only do it off the roost so if anywhere other than a roost site say in middle off a field or down a hedge i strongly doubt it is a tawny. But if under a tree even if away form pen with loads of pheasant s hit around it could be a tawny. Hard to say for sure with the little details given If u plucked the poult out there might be other signs
