Possible permission.

Good evening gents.

After many months avidly searching for permissions I spoke with a farmer on the phone today. He asked me to meet him Sunday morning to have a chat.

Fingers crossed something will come good. Would be my first permission so any pointers on what he might ask to test me??

Cheers Guys.

Make sure you know what you can and can't shoot (one of ours wanted us to shoot crows and ravens, obviously we had to politely decline the raven shooting)

Be prepared to explain what you would or wouldn't do regarding footpaths/public access.

Establish how best to verify boundaries (for several of our perms we used Google maps to give us photo 'maps' of the land and then marked all of the boundaries. Find out how he wants you to notify him that you will be shooting.

Is there anything he doesn't want shot?

Any no go areas, can you drive over all of it, some of it or none of it?

hi don't want to put a damper on it but I spoke on the phone about some shooting and he made arrangements to meet him the next day at 5pm

when I got there I was made to wait a long time and told he was busy and never got to meet this man

he got someone to make copies of my insurance and sgc and was told he would ring me. after 2 or 3 weeks I gave he a ring to be told by him he had been busy and he would ring me

this was 3 or 4 months ago and still not got the shooting

Be positive. You probably got a 'feel' for what sort of bloke he sounded like so you should have a rough idea if he was genuine. At the end of the day you should be in with a good chance otherwise he wouldn't have invited you for a chat with him, he probably just wants to give you the once over to see if you're genuine. Take a pair of wellies with you just in case he wants to show you round or even asks to give him a hand for 5 mins. The amount of times a farmer asks 'while your here can you ........' and it goes a long way if you can say yes.

Dress appropriately, not camo.

Ask:

Boundaries

What you are allowed to shoot

When you are allowed to shoot (days and times if there are dwellings close by)

Ask him if he has any immediate problems with pests which he would like sorting

If he wants notice every time to shoot.

Ask him if others shoot on his land so you can inform him if anyone is there uninvited
