You'll get another before long. Just got to wait for that tide to be right again.

I think that tide was a bit late on saturday because as I went through wisbech the river nene looked quit high and as we went over the welland at Fosdyke the river looked like it was still moving slightly.

I dropped by sheps on the way back and the tide was a fair way out already.

This morning i had a change from the usual part of the marsh i shoot and went onto Kirton marsh with lister1 and harry the cat.

Met lister1 at fosdyke and he showed me the way down to the access. Met harry and got geared up and headed onto the marsh.

Decoys were thrown onto a splash and the 3 of us settle down in a creek not far away. Started becoming light and we started seeing a few birds flighting the marsh. Teal, wigeon and mallard. After a little while two came at the decoys but turned about 50 yards away. Then one bunch came in and circle the decoys presenting themselves right in front of us at close range. I fired and missed with the first shot but got a hen mallard with the second. On inspection of the mallard there where 6 holes just in the head and neck! It was shot using 33gram of steel 3s that i loaded myself!

Its taken me untill the second month of my second season of wildfowling to get anything. 50 odd flights but now i've got a mallard in the bag!

Oh and before the "usual" suspects appear, there where no flag poles or weather vanes for it to fly into :P

Didnt realise there were "weather vanes" down kirton but obviously there must be, maybe a "Goose" next time from the sluice weather vane if its foggy same as Phil's big day?.....just shows you though..."Harry the Cat" takes out a fowling party and they return with the goods!!....another "Derbyshire fowler" showing the locals how to do it!....but seriously Mat, well done mate...hope its the 1st of many, I'll see you when I'm down again.

best wishes...Dale.

It must have been moving out then.

Definitely still high at wisbech though. Although the nene may just hold its water.

Probably holds water along with all the guns, car and bodies that have been chucked in it over the years

Probably got thursday off this week, got some holiday left and work is very very quiet so may nip down sheps to try for another duck or a goose!

Surely there are some places to shoot duck regardless of the state of the tide?

Did your dog retrieve the duck Matt or is it just flat footballs ??? Must be her first retrieve too if she knew what to do !!

She went and sniffed it while i walked over to pick it up. I did chuck it onto the splash and she went and got it but wasnt keen on picking it up. Grabbed it by the edge of the wing and dropped it a couple of times. First duck shes carried so just needs some more practice!

I bet it didnt need much plucking because when you and Lister1 went looking for the two teal in the far splash ping pong had a chew at it whilst my back was turned :lol:
