lewis11
Hi all, The time has come to get a 12g instead of my 20g. I have had goes with my dads 12g miroku, but I would like suggestions on a O/U 12g that wouldn't be too bad for recoil (I'm almost 15 and of quite build). It will be used for clays, Game and some wildfowling. thanks in advance
bicykillgaz
Not been funny but why the need to go to a 12g? 28g of no7 is the same in 12g or 20g so if your 20g fits why change? Edit- sorry just seen the wild fowling bit and I guess loads are limited in 20g in steel. Edited October 12, 2013 by bicykillgaz
johnlewis
What about a semi automatic recoil used to reload and if steel proofed it will be ready for wild fowling.
Guest cookoff013
any 12gauge would be better than a 20 when steel shot is concerned,. i would in your case look to the low recoil 21gram shells in any o/u gun. just get a 3" chamber minimum, that will see you shooting =decent steel loads too. wj939
You will probably find that it will kick less on the 12. 28g in a 20 weighing less will kick more . I would suggest the miroku if you can handle it will be fine. If not a beretta can feel a little bit lighter/slim
lewis11
Ok, thanks for all the advice so far. The reason for the change is that the 20g I have at the moment doesn't fit well, and the 20s have a smaller cartridge choice. Please could you suggest some makes/models as well. Thanks all
HDAV
Simple, Browning Miroku or Beretta..... lighter gun = more recoil. Fit is the key budget is the limitation..... http://www.b725.eu/

bicykillgaz
I'd look at a semi auto then if recoil is a problem but you also want to end up wild fowling. No point getting use to really light loads in an over and under then needing to go to 3" shells for fowling. If you get a semi it will soak up more recoil so you'll be able to handle larger shells with more ease. I looked at a beretta extrema2 which was a good heavy gun and would certainly solve the recoil issue, not sure you'd want to lug it round all day though. Hope you get sorted with something suitable mate. Atb Gary
lewis11
Hi Gary, it has to be O/U because we run a medium sized syndicate and go driven shooting a lot in the season. Thanks
OddJob
Go to the gun shop and have a hold. You'll be fine with most of them, it just depends on your budget. I've got 13 and 14 year olds who weigh very little blatting away with Berettas and Brownings in the clay shooting club I run. If you are look for sub £500 - Lanber If you've got some more £1000-1500 a nice sporter (heavier and so left felt recoil though and front end weight should be reduced if its a well balanced gun) Beretta (silver pigeon, 682)/Browning (325/425)/Miroku. Try them before you buy however, some will kick you about more than others, even if they feel nice in the shop.

wj939
Odd jobs is spot on. I would suggest either miroku browning or beretta. Anything from those guys second hand you can be looking from 600-1200. If I were making the change up again I would spend about 800 on a second hand silver pigeon or miroku mk60/70 and that will last you a long time, anything left over in your budget take a lesson or two. You will never hit 90%scores with 70% technique and I do sometimes think it would of been better off being taught rather than picking it up through practice alone. If your budget allows I keep to those 3 makes you will never lose any real money on a decent s/h one.
lewis11
Could you keep the 20g for that or is 2 guns not an option? I have 20g hushpower pump, so that would mean 3 guns and I can't warrant having a semi for the odd bit of wildfowling. It will need to be used for everything Go to the gun shop and have a hold.
