scolopax
Not at all local to the area myself but as far as I believe, in the North West, you are stuffed. All long waiting lists in that part of the world. Hopefully someone who lives closer will be able to correct me.....
kent
Dee Wildfowlers normally have vacancies for Probationary members, it just depends on season. The Probation scheme is very good and quite fair. I am a member of this club and live a bit further North than you in the Trough of Bowland, I also shoot two other clubs in the Bay area but though the waiting lists might be longer but its still do-able. Preston actually had vacancies last year I was told, I think its closed again though now? I wont shoot there myself due to the no dogs rule so never applied

kent
Heck some clubs have some real wacky rules, you either follow them or don't join. I have thus far been told 4 different reasons for this one but like I say I wont be joining though I am told its very good for Widgeon Edited October 14, 2013 by kent

I belive alot of the clubs are 'dead mans shoes' types? Morcombe Bay is probably your best bet, but i think you may have to wait till nxt year? kent
I'd be interested to hear these "reasons" Kent.?Its hard to say which are the real reasons on reason. As I am not a member they are just rumours second hand and if the membership are saying different things it begs the question.......
nic
Dee is a very good club, with some fantastic shooting I was a member until this year when moving south meant I no longer renewed. The only issue with joining now, if they let you, is you could not become a full member until next year some time, as you would have to do the walks and talks as well as the shoots with members... these walks/talks only happen once each year good luck, its a good marsh
Penelope
The probationary schemes operated by a lot of wildfowling clubs is a very good idea IMO. kiffy
i'm a proby with the dyfi, mawwdach and district wildfowlers and have no issues at all.. infact i am glad i have to have someone with me to teach me whats what on the marsh and as wildfowling is totally new to me to teach me the difference between the birds, looking at books and websites is great but theres nothing like seeing how the bird flies or having someone experieneced with tides etc in the place we shoot. There was one unfilled Country member slot this year as the guy gave back word on it, but you will have to clime the list I think

kent
Theres a waiting list to get on the waiting list at the moment.Seriously? I know there is some issue with some non active probationers who haven't gone through the system and become full members, perhaps it will change for next season if this is indeed correct info
Dee Wildfowler
Just to confirm that the Dee has closed it's waiting list for a while as we've got too many probationary members at the moment. Probationary members must be accompanied by a full member until they have completed at least a year of membership and made at least 10 accompanied visits, but over the last year or so the probationary members haven't shown the usual enthusiasm so we've got a bit of a backlog to clear. We're concentrating on getting those probationary members to complete the various criteria expected of probationary membership. In the meanwhile, anyone interested in joining the Dee can apply to the Secretary via the club website and will be put on a waiting list to go on the official waiting list, which should be open again in the next few months. Dee Wildfowler
Terry, We're knee deep in Wigeon, Pintail and Teal at the moment with several thousand Canadas and best part of 1000 Pinks that arrived this week. So just normal on the Dee. John
