matone
Most guns that I`ve encountered are marked `Armstrong & Co ,Newcastle upon Tyne` which I think are different from the Vickers Armstrong guns.(or possibly from a different time period). The Armstrong & Co guns all appear to be `trade` guns.
JohnfromUK
I looked at a very nice Armstrong sidelock a couple of years ago. A very nice example - very possibly Birmingham made, lovely wood, nice nitro Damascus. I passed at the time, but was very tempted and rather wish nw I had given in! JJsDad
Armstrong & Co had a number of addresses in Newcastle between the dates 1887 to 1917 when the record of serial numbers and addresses ceased to be recorded. It appears highly likely that they continued to trade through to circa 1925, as guns with a serial numbers up to 62,062 have been identified which post-date guns made in 1917. Armstrong made their own guns but in addition bought in barreled actions from Webley & Scott at certain periods during their existence. If you care to jot down the serial number, I can probably give you an approx date that your gun was built; if that is of interest. Hopper Bopper
Thanks for all the replies. Matone, sorry for the question but what do you mean by 'trade' guns? JJsDad, I have sent you a pm Cheers. HB Edited October 20, 2013 by Hopper Bopper
matone
Guns usually made in Birmingham for others to sell with their own name on. Most British guns are of this type!
