Well I skived Uni today and decided to go down to the shore,(got up 2 hours earlier than I have to for class).

Managed to get down in the dark but there was already a couple of guns out which was fine. One was about 600 yards directly in front of me and the other guy was well out at 2 o'clock. The guy ahead of me got a lot of shooting but I got the impression he considered any duck up to 80 yards as 'in range'.

A single wigeon came up the burn beside me. I took a bit of a pop at it with the first shot but the second barrel folded it up.

This was later followed by another volley of shots down ahead of me. I soon clocked a group of 4 greylags flying up the bay, (which was what they must have been shooting at). A few calls had them heading straight for me. I only had my duck shells in so thought I better get the geese in close. Well I left it too late. Popped up and the birds were only 20 yards from me. After a dodgey gun mount I had 3 misses for what should have been a couple of birds

Another group of 3 wigeon crossed in front of me and my second barrel dropped a bird to my left which the dog marked well and picked.

I then managed a snap shot at a bird which I probably should have left and it planed down 100 yards away. Sent the dog for it and she must have gone 3/4 of the distance perfectly before veering off and hunting for it. Decided it was easier to go down and help the lab pick it and it was soon added to the bag.

Later on, I managed another snap shot at a single wigeon near the end of the flight. It was a long way out so was pleased when the dog went out and collected it.

I hung around on the sea wall for an hour to see if any geese would come in and hit the field behind me. After 30 minutes it was like watching paint dry. A few geese passed over but most were at least 70 yards up so went away unscathed. Reach an hour and decided to pack up. Waking along the sea wall I heard more pinks reach the bay. Decided not to get the gun out but typically they started to head my way. There was a panic to get the gun out of the case and then I dropped down behind the wall. Typically the geese went right over where I had been waiting and at a decent height! A few blows on the call got them to do a 'U' turn and swing my way. They were just at the edge of range when they clocked me. I fired a single shot at a tail bird and managed to pull down a pink.

So all in all a pretty successful flight and I dare say worth missing a few classes. Hopefully it wasn't too boring to read!
