No its not and the sooner people realise this the better. If you meet the criteria to possess a fac then you will be granted it end of.

Quite correct and exactly the opposite of what was quoted. It annoys me when people claim that gun ownership is a privilege and not a right. You have the right to own guns as long as you meet the required criteria regarding the law ect. It's bad enough when the non shooting community believe this never mind people that own guns. As long as you can give good reason for FAC you have the right to ownership.

I think I may have put that rather poorly.

Ownership of FAC in this country is a privilege in that you must show 'good reason' to possess (whether that be target, where club membership is needed, or live shooting, where land, quarry species need to be shown to be likely to be present) - unlike for a SGC, where you do not have to show shooting permissions over land, or clay club membership

The OP was originally suggesting that he would simply not inform the police that his permission had gone, and just sit on his FAC, hoping to get a permission in the next 5 years. My viewpoint was that he was risking rather a lot by doing so. He has only had his FAC for 2 weeks, and to possibly sit on a FAC for nearly 5 years without any land to shoot on would be, in my opinion, grossly risky. If that was the case, then there is no way in hell he would be able to argue that he had 'good reason' for those 4 yrs and 50 weeks.

Agree with you there. Good thing is BABS does have other land that may have already been cleared for his calibres so presuming his conditions (closed as far as I can make out) say something along the lines of land deemed suitable by the chief of police it' just a formality.

Regarding the other piece of land - as you have said, it is 'full of horses' , so the very first thing is to check whether the landowner would be happy for you to be shooting rifles on there, as opposed to air rifles, which is all you are using there at present.

Horsey people can be rather funny about things like that ...
