old rooster
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24722248 Looks like Smith had a long prior history of child abuse "Smith was a prolific sex offender whose first conviction was in 1966. He had 22 convictions for sexual offences against young boys." Makes you wonder why such a prolific predator was ever out in public? Another example of our pathetic penal system perhaps? On another point: "Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination was being carried out on Tuesday, but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death". castletyne
his suicide would suggest he thought there was a high chance of conviction Or it could be that mud sticks and anyone accused of these type of crimes is finished even if found innocent I cannot help thinking that some of the people conning forward after all these years is lying Edited October 29, 2013 by castletyne
pigeonblasterian
He was a convicted sex offender and had spent time in prison for it. His cause of death is not confirmed yet.So it could be natural causes.

Penelope
Funny that, on Radio 4 yesterday morning they mentioned the driver who was employed by the BBC. The BBC are also denying that he ever worked for them and he had no contact with Saville
old rooster
Court documents say there is no evidence to suggest a link between Smith and Savile, though the former was contracted to work as a driver for the BBC. A BBC spokesman said "on searches carried out to date" the corporation had "not found any record of David Smith being employed by or working for the BBC". Clear as mud m'lud!!! DaveK
Has anyone considered that the stress involved at his age may have been the cause of death? Or has suicide been confirmed? Or will PW chinese whispers dictate the outcome? Horrible piece of detritis he may and yes it would have been better if justice had been seen to be done and yes he MAY have topped himself but why not wait for the cause of death instead of jumping to conclusions. evo
You have to be of a certain vintage to remember the lovely Linda . or debra from dallas, hope he was having a bath and someone threw the elecy fire in it, he should of been made to suffer like the innocent people he abused, but it would of been nice to see him properly convicted via the courts, on another note the BBC has a lot to answer for the amount of sicko,s that have been charged that worked there, it must of been like a weirdo,s club, no wonder they are secretive about everything Evo
Mungler
Or it could be that mud sticks and anyone accused of these type of crimes is finished even if found innocent I cannot help thinking that some of the people conning forward after all these years is lying "Smith was a prolific sex offender whose first conviction was in 1966. He had 22 convictions for sexual offences against young boys." That says it all. Whilst I am sure that the Police and Courts would approach Mr. Smith's prosecution on the basis that he was innocent until proven guilty, however, if there was anyone who should be given the benefit of any doubt, well Mr. Smith ain't that person.
