Davyo
Mates free lander failed MOTon abs light ,garage done diagnostics test that proved 3 had failed.Quoted £200 each.Anyway we bought 4 new sensors total cost £64 which tested ok(ebay jobs). To cut a long story short garage has been chasing this fault around for over a week now and cant get the ABS light off.Still a fault somewher(just as well he didnt pay £800 plus vat for sensors. We get the car back tomorrow with no MOT. So here is the big ask, can anybody recomend garage in the Northeast who can fix it or will it be best to take it Landrover and see if their dignostic mchine can find whr the problem is.I thought and correct me if wrong, that these machines are supposed to pin point the problem. It is only the ABS light that is stopping it getting through it MOT. NIGHT SEARCHER
Has it been piugged back in after the sensors were fitted. It will need to plugged in and faults cleared out of it`s memory. It could be a fault with the ABS unit it`s self under the bonnet. As for the dignostic machine there are loads out there and some are very basic. The one i use was £3500 and is 4 years old and is getting out of date. Try sending parapilot a pm. Thats what he dose for a job Vehicle Electrical Dignostic. Good luck.

Cawdor118
There is cheap fix for this... Remove the ABS bulb from the dash! And just remember you have no ABS. Not that you will be doing high speeds anyway. Haha.
Davyo
Removing the bulb wont get it through an mot mate.Thats what the previous owner did and its the 1st thing the tester checked, so they put a new bulb in and thats where the trouble started. We now have it back with no mot and nobody who can fix it. parapilot
Didn't come from me put if you piggy back the light from another engine light inside dash that comes on and then off like engine management then the abs will light and go out when ign is on that's all the tester needs to see he can't go striping things. But you won't have abs as state an if you sell it you really need to say...
Greenhorn
Thanks parapilot I'm Davyos mate with the problem Landy, I just need someone clever enough to do that cos truck is quite sound other than this little problem
liam8223
Have you driven the car since fitting new sensors/clearing codes? I've had a couple Freelanders' that needed to do say 10 -15 mph before the light would extinguish. Unsure why you were quoted £200 per sensor - I can get OE spec sensors for a lot less. If the codes have been cleared, the truck driven and the light still remains you need a man with a good understanding and possibly an oscilloscope. The abs sensors produce a square wave signal that is sent via two wires from each wheel sensor to the abs ecu. Many factors can cause the light to come on, for example sensor airgap - too much gap creates a weak amplitude, as does too little gap. Continuity for all wires between sensors and ecu need to be load tested for integrity. A decent auto sparky will sort it easy, its bread and butter stuff for me, my garage sees this sort of thing regularly. Good luck! Liam. Greenhorn
Yep the light still on when driving, and yes the price for the sensors are a bit mad when got 4 for less than £
Davyo
Thats the main problem we cant find a sparky that can fix it, they are keen enough to take £70 of greenhorn for a diagnotic check but then cant fix it.The last garage spent nearly 2wks on it and gave up.He prob wouldnt mind spending money to get fixed but lost all confidence in auto electricians at the moment until one comes along who can fix it rather than a shrug of the shoulders.A maybe doesnt justify shelling out £70. ian87
You need to get it on a decent diagnostic machine to see if its still coming up with a sensor fault after fitting the new sensors. The reluctor rings on the outer cv joints are common to crack caused by rust build up underneath makes it look like a sensor because there's no reading. Sometimes if the rust builds up to much it wears away the tip of the sensor so it will need a cv joint (with reluctor ring) and sensor
Davyo
All fixed now, passed MOT today.
elgreco
So what was the solution? Tom
lincs1963
local landrover wizard told me to replace the brake light switch as a first response to abs lights coming on, common fault apparantly. Replaced switch, everything working as it should. Switch was £12. Cheers, Neil
